but not always does the voice meet
the requirements of the heart. espec-
tally when the latter is overflowing
with gratitude and love. in his com.
mentaries upon Horace Staples. his
position with the educational phase of
Westport. his sterling qualities as a
man. his status as a pttblic benefactor,
no one could have done him greater
honor than a beneficiary. and no bene-
ficiary could possibly have dealt with
it biography and the results attained
by a generous man than did Rev. Mr.
Raymond in discounting upon Horace
Staples. The great charm of his ad-
dress was its sincerity. No attempt-
ing at empty oratory. but as one ap-
preciating the benefits of the children‘s
friend. one of which Mr. Raymond had
been; as a protege. it might be said.
of a broad- minded, noble gentle phil
unthropist the orator graphically pic-
tured an interesting lite its benefi-
cience and value. and at the same time
did honor to himself by the homage
he paid a deserved memory. It was
left to Mr. Raymond to voice the sen-
timents of very many here. and ad-
mlrably he succeeded. Others who

England Telephone Company will cut-

that the company would open one new
building in hieriden probably about

Among the improvements in equip-
ment to be installed in humes of sub-
stribers in the near future is a hovel
form of extension instrument con~
sistlng of a very compact arrangement
ol transmitter and receiver octupyiug
a circle of about eight inches in diam-
eter upon the wall. it can be plat ed
in any room desired by the subst rlher
in connection with the present eqttip-,
want. it furnishes wherever placed.
not only a means of answering tele-
phone calls. but also an additional
method of calling “control." These
extensions are to be furnished to sub
scribel‘s at a small rate per year. The
device also enables the comiany to
equips residence so that the te ephone
is available in any desired part of the
house. while the bell is placed where
it can be best beard. Thus one may
have the bell set in the hall of his
residence and the instrument withottt
any box or hell attached, set in his
library- or sitting room or bed room as
he. desires. This latter service is to
be used éxnlueiwly on single circuits,
and the rates. if only one instrument
is used are the same as for the or-

- dinary equipment.

on a wedding tour. They may reside
in California. although this has not

is a Maryland man. He has recently
been on a trip to California.
