FIRE IN NEW HAVEN.
Clock Company's Plant Damaged to the
Extent of $8,000.
NEW HAVEN. Jan. 23.-—0né of the
new four-story buildings of the New
Haven Clock Company was damaged
slightly by fire this morning, and
greater damage was done to the con-
tents by water. The blaze was dis-
covered bursting. through the roof of
the building by policmnen in Grand
avenue. two blocks away, and when the
firemen arrived it had a good start so
that the chemical apparatus was of
little use. The large quantity or wat-
er reqiured to quench the iiamea soak-
ed through all the floors and damaged
may watch and clock movemnts.
Only a portion ‘of the roof and assault
of the structure were burned. The
cause of the Ire is not known. -
The company ’qflcialg said men
could not give an estimate of the Iona
at present. Firemen thought it would
