There is a slight falling off in all the
figures concerning the work of the
state frcc employment bureau as pro
pared by Supt. .l. .l. Linsley for the
year 1903. Superintendent Linsiey ex.
plains that while the figures are small-
cr that there has been a correspond
tug gain In the equality of the help fur-
nished and that the year as a whole. has
been a most satisfactory one. The
grade of labor furnished as well as the
dcmaud for help has been of a higher
grade than that of previous years.
The applications for employment for
. the year numbered 2.770. of which I.-
.'.111 were males and 1.258 females. The
applications fhr help aggregated l.~
1'07, of which 578 were males and 1,-
189 females. The most important “it
urcs. however, relate to the situations
secured. for that indicates the efficacy
or inefficaoy of the. bureau. The sta-
tistics disclose that onehaif or 1.39!
of those who applied were furnished
with employment. Divided by sexes
those furnished employment were 515
males and 876 females. The com-
parisons indicate that more than two-
thirds of the women who applied were
given employment while but about one-
third of the. men who sought situations
w‘ere successful in their quest. This.
shows conclusively what a strong de-
mand there is for household servants.
The figures for 1902 are as follows:
