NEW STATION FOR GREENWICH.
President Hall Authorizes Its immedi-
ate Construction.
A despatch from New Haven states
that President Hall, of the Consolidat-
ed Road, has authorized the construc-
tion of a new passenger station and
the enlargement of the station grounds
on the east-bound track at Greenwich.
The work will be. begun immediately.
There has been a demand for better
railroad-station facilities in Green
wich for some time. The station on
the west-bound side is but a tempo-
rary affair. and is hardly adequate for
the business handled at Greenwich.
especially during the summer months.
The! present station for east-bound
trains is a. veritable shed. with a dry-
goods-box-llke waiting room at the
eastern extremity of a long enclosed
walk. Some of the wealthy residents
of Belle Haven have complained fre-
quently of tho inadequate station fa-
cilities. It is understood that some of
these people have interested theat-
selves ln the matter to the extent of-
waiting on Mr. Hall with a petition for
a new station on the east side of the
railroad tracks.
Last spring the railroad company
purchased a considerable tract of land
adjoining its property on. the south
side of the road leading to the station
for east-hound trains.‘ This purchase
has put in the company's possession
suflicient land for a large and thor-
oughly equipped station. Whether
there is any intention of making the
new station the principal depot could
not be ascertained yesterday. In most
cases however, the principal depot is
on the west-bound side of the trucks.
