The commodore's cup, of the Nor-
' walk Yacht Club, presented by Com-
modore James A. Ferrell, was placed
on exhibition today in the window of
Charles H Diiwortii, the Norwaik
Jeweler The cup is a large silver one.
with gold linln‘g. The name of the win
ner of the cap has not yet been an-
nouiiccd by the committee.
The cups presented by Vice-(lemme
iloro Howard H. Mossman and Rear
Commodore Frederick ll. Norton have
also been placed on exhibition in Mr.
Dilworth'a window. These cups. like

GIRL DIED OF BLACK DIPHTHERIA.
COLLINSVILLE, Oct. 2.——~The death
of Florence Johnson, aged five years,
of black diphtheria last night. has caus
ed fear of a spread of the disease here.
The victim was the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. August Johnson, who live in a
tenement house where there are other
families including ten children. Until
a few days ago the child attended a
district school Just outside the village.
No physician was called to attend the
girl until last evening, and although be
administered antitoxin it was too late
to save her life. The district school
has been closed and Is being fumigated
by the Health Board. The child was
buried today.
JUMPED INTO NORTH RIVER.
NEW YORK, Oct. 2.—-A man suppos-
ed to have been David H. McRitchie.
of Wiscassct. Maine. jumped from the
pier at West Twelfth street early it,
day, swam out 100 feet and sank. He
evidently destroyed himself with most
remarkable calmness. for, in his hai
which he laid upon the pier. was a lat
ter giving instructions to notify rein.
lives. and included his last will and
testament. The writer stated that he
desired his baggage. at an uptown ho-
tel. should be forwarded to David J.
McRitchle, Washington. D. C. The
suicide's body has not been recovered.
