John S. Mulgrew, who is spending
the summer on Noroton Hill. in E. A.
Gillesple's place. had an exciting
runaway experience about 8 o‘clock
yesterday morning, in East Main
street Stamford. as be was on his way
to the station' to take a train for New
York. Mr. Molgrew was driving in a
boost-sled surrey. and had his two chil-
dren with him. The coachmau was
following on horseback, so that he
might assist the children in driving
back to the house. The horse became
frightened on Noroton Hill and dashed
along East Main street. Mr. Mulgrpw
lost all control of the horse. The chil-
dren began to cry. and as people on
East Main street started after the run-
away. they also shouted and added to
the excitement. it happened that, a
train was passing over the East Main
street bridge just as the runaway was
passing under and this frightened the
horse all the more. bowls W. Scoflold,
who lives at 863 Main street, Stamfold,
a short distance from the bridge. was
about his yard at the time, and ran
out after the. horse. He caught the
bridle and turned him in near a fence.
Mr. Scofleld hung on and succeedsdllo
bringing the horse to a stand .
Neither Mr. Maigrew nor his chi gen
were thrown out. but all were consid-
erably frightened. The carriage was
slightly damaged. Mr. Mulgrew went
to New York on a later train. The
same horse ran away last Sunday in
Noroton.
