that most of the boats bad anchored
somewhere In Vineyard Sound.

At 8 o‘clock this morning, when the
boats here began preparatuions to get
under way, the fog had lifted cansldera-

only the slightest breath of air was
stirring It seemed probable that an-

Columbia-10: 32: 00

Within two minutes after the start
Columbia had pulled up on the weather
of the Constitution and had blanketed
her. Then the Columbia began to pick
up on the Reliance with the Constitu-
tion following closely and all three
yachts passed West Chop Light. almost
together.

in a luding match just after crossing
the line. both the Reliance and the Co
lumbia struck on the ididdie Ground.

he Reliance floated In about two min
utes. The Columbia which was farth-
er in stuck fact and her tender is go-
ing to her assistance The tender also
look bottom. it Is probable that the
Reliance was not injured, as the shoal
where she struck is sandy.

The ocean tug Storm yKing which
accompanied the yachts and which was
nearby. promptly gave assistance to
the Columbia. when it was seen that
the tender was helpless. After some
time she succeeded In floating the
yacht. and at noon the old cup dc-
fender filled away again on a long
chase after her two rivals. it is thought
that she was not seriously damaged.
After relieving the Columbia, the
Storm King went to the assistance of
her tender. it is thought she may not
float until the next tide.
