with laughter.

no need of any increase in the mili-
tary departments and the amendment
of Mr Bowen was lost.

MORE STEEL CAR FLOATS.
A year ago a contract was given by
the New York, New Haven and Hart-
ford Railroad Co. to tho Fore River
Ship and Engine Co., Quincy, Mass.
for two steel car floats. each capable of
carrying 23 {IO-ton freight cars on three
tracks. So satisfactory were these
floats, which were completed and do-
livered last year. that the same com‘
pauy has been given another contract.
This time it is for four floats. These
floats, the plans for which are complet-
ed_ will be begun in a few days. They
will each be 315 feet long. 38 foot
beam, ten feet four inches deep.
