"Road," negotiating the rough passage

Where the sand was fairly firm good
running was made. The wagon was
fitted with tires having broad flanges.
which gripped well and drove the ma-
chine forward. Where the sand was
loose the going was difficult. the wheel
occasionally churning sand without

moved by the use of broader tires.
Hill climbing experiments were
made in Cairo. and a wagon carrying
a freight equal to three tons covered
the great citadel hill in fourteen min-
