The report of the state dental copi-
missioners for the year ended Septem
her. 30. 1902. has been submitted to
the governor. The report covers the
work of the commission. the examlns»
floats held by it. a list of those exam
ined, a list of registered and licensed
dentists in the state and of dentists
put of the state who have received ii
ceases from the commission. Twen-
ty- -ilye_ candidates passed the examina-
tions held during the year. The com-
missioners recommend an am-
endment of the statutes so as to
provide .thst the annual meeting shall
be held in June or July insteadof in
May. as at present. thus enabling Itu~
dents to avoid interruption to their
studies and, at the same time, not be
compelled to postpone the beginning
of their professional career until af~
ter the examination in November. The

The commissioners voted to discon-
tinue the lssulng’of temporary per-
mits. as there is no provision of
law authorising such practice. Three
prosecutions for practicing dentistry
in violation of law have been brought
during the past year. in oneI case
the court imposed a substantial penai~
tr, which was paid. and the other two
are still pending. it would seem to
be génerslly supposed by the members
of the profession that a chief duty of
the dental commissioners relates to
prosecutions for practicing dentistry
in violation of law. This is a capital
mistake. Neither by express require-
ment hor’ by‘ implication douHhe law
charge the commissioners with any
duty of responsibility in that direc
tion
it is the dutv of all rightly disposed
citizens whether dentists or not. to
see that the law is enforced. it is also
the duty 'of prosecuting attorneys to
bring to justice every violator of the
law. when complaint is made and pro
per evidence is presented. At the

the: commissioners to cooperate with
the public authorities and with mom
