Brdigepmt, husband of Leila Mallaon,
occupied a seat near her In the court
room. He had not been present at
the opening of the hearing. and it was
said that he was in Wililmantlc. en-
deavorlng to secure counsel to defend
his wife but he was not accompanied
by an otloluey when he reached here.
The hearing therefore went on as it
had begun with the accused not rep-
resented bv counsel. ,
Mrs. Rose Tanner was the first wit-
ness called after the recess~ She add
an to her previous testimony by say
ing that she was in the Wilson house
after the autopsy on Mrs. Wilson's
body was concluded, and that Mrs.
Manson thou remarked: "i wish I
knew where they had put that jar
with the stomach in it. so that I could
put something into it to eat it 11p."
Arthur Tanner. husband of the prev-
ious witness. corroborated her testi-
mony as to the quoted remark of Mrs.
Manson.
Ora Wilson. a son of the dead wom-
an. testified that he had often heard
his mother say she did not want “the
Manson woman" around. and that she
wished Mrs. Manson would go. away.
Deputy Sheriff Peckham. of Willi-

son's death. He said Mrs. Wilson told
him she was “sick and tired of the
Manson woman." and did not like her.

when he told her he could do nothing
unless a legal complaint was made. the
matter ended.
Arthur (lirard. a clerk in' a Willi-
1nantic drug store. testified that sever-
al weeks ago, he sold an ounce of ar-
senic to a woman who resembled Mrs.
Manson. but he could not positively
identify the prisoner us the woman to
whom he made the sale.
James Golden. manager of another
drug store in Willimantic said Mrs.
Manson called at this store and asked
for arsenic but he refused to sell it to
her. He identified the prisoner as the
woman who came to the store. He
said she told him that she wanted the
arsenic to glvé it to 11 sick woman in
Ashiord. whom/she was nursing.
Dr. Wolff said that while his examin-
ation of the internal organs of the body
was not complete he had found arsenic
sufficient in his opinion. to make it
positive that the woman died of al'»
senlcal poisoning. 1
At the conclusion of Dr. Wolff's tea

unarmed that the state' a case was fin-
ished. “The prisoners who. had all the '
