mand liberally with profit-taking stock.
which soon stopped the. rise. The. mar-
ket then became reactionary and Min»
souri Pacific. Louisville and Reading
first preferred declined a point. Now
buying orders appeared later and there
was some disposition to share in the
bulge in St. Paul to 190%. Trans-con—
tinental stocks rallied to about thc
opening level and the undertone be-
came strong.

14 per cent. Yesterday's violent drop
in the loaning rate in the afternoon
aroused new hope that rates would be
less stringent. The decline in volume
did not make, much headway. and ef-
fective support of Steel pulled the list

points. St. Paul was bought in large
blocks, and touched 1971/4. a gain ovcr
night of nearly four points. The buy-
ing was based on rumors that a dis-
tribution of large stock rights was im-
minent. Louisville jumped to 1:35 on

bash preferred. St. Louis Southwest-

treasurer and B. F. Robinson, director,
of the Globe Worsted Mills. of Law—
rcnce Ihurged with making false stateu
tncuts to the commissioner of corpor-
ations, in regard to the standing of
the company. The men were held in
$1,000 each for further bearing upon
entering a plea of not guilty.

The case grew out of returns mode to
the commissioner in 1898, 1891) and
1900. District Attorney cl’tcrs today
stated that the actual value of the
conccrn's property at he imc was mis-
represented to the amount of $35,000.
He stated further that the company
was insolvent.

'i‘hc Robinsons were the mnnnacrs of
the Globe mills and Prospect. mills. of
Lawrence. which failed two years ago.
Their affairs have figured prominently
in the courts.
