Ashley Cooke and Tom Lnudcrdnle
were hanged here at 1141 n. at. today.
The crime for which Cooke and Land-
crdale were executed was committed
on a railroad train December 30, 1901.
With them were Will Blackburn and
G. M. Phipps. All were intoxicated.
G. M. Wray an engineer. was also a
passenger. and was asleep, when the
drunken quartet entered. hey 0rd
cred Wrny to leave the car and as
Wray, realizing their condition. start.-
cd to do so Cooke, Landerdala and
Blackburn opened fire. on him. He
was riddled with bullets and tell dead
in the aisle. The murder created
great cxcitcment,. Blackburn. helped
by his previous good character, es-
caped with a life sentence.
