that a young man was almost fatally

at Bridgeport.
Hereafter a vigilant watch for these.

ed in this way to discourage th(I prac-
tice of "freight hopping" and it may

the delegates who are to take part in
the convention of the United Mine
Workers here. there is no more senti-
ment in favor of a strike than there
was . last night. The opinion is
steadily gaining ground that a strike
would lessen the chances of the an—
thracite. miners to win their fight for
the reason that .It would take from
them all the support that the soft
coal men will be able to extend if they
continue at work. While it is im-
possible to predict what any body of
the men will do while. given question
when there is a chance that the gath-
ering may be" swept from its feet by
a few impassioned speeches the as-
pect of the convention when it opened
this morning was averse to a strike.

hal with an attendance of obout 900
delegates. Nearly every man on the
floor was in the possession of several
proxies. some holding as high as five
and others from four to two. - .
The first part of the session was de-
voted to addresses of welcome from
municipal odicers of Indianapolis and
