A fire in the apartments of Mr. and

street, Saturday evening, caused some

A report was circulated yesterday
in the case of Mrs. Mary E. Wright
Smith now held at the county jail in
Bridgeport on the charge of contempt-
her release would follow at once it

be. and it is not known from whom it
will emanate, except that it will be
from afriend of Mrs. Smith. The at-
torney for the opposing side knew
nothing of the matter last evening and

ing what he would do in the event of
such a suggestion.
Mrs. Smith took her commitment to
jail for contempt by Judge Edward J.
Curtis on Saturday morning very cool

contents while the commitment papers

Sheriff Hawley. she left for the jail Im-
mediately afterward.
She was placed in the hospital room
used for women and has spent the in
tervening time there since. Wester-
day morning she appeared in good spir-
its and when Sheriff Hawtey visited
her with her breakfast she said that
she felt very well. Hel- breakfast dodv

regular fare of the institution. in
discussing her calls; with the sheriff.
she said that while she was antiques—

which was responsible for her com-
mitment on the charge of contempt;
she thought it was unjust. in the first

Carl Foster as counsel for Orrin P.
Dally. of New York to get satisfaction
for a judgment attained against Mrs
Smith several weeks ago. After ad
mltting that she owned $300,000 worth
of United States bonds, Mrs. Smith
refused to tell anything more about
them.
Judge Curtis gave Mrs. Smith every
chance to escape from the threatened
punishment for contempt. Patience
at lost ceased to be a virtue.
Mrs. Smith is happy It the prospect
