Notwithstanding lowering clouds that
constantly threatened a downpour of
mild throughout the morning, the
grand parade of the thirtyll’ll’th nation
al encampment of the G. A. R. was;
visited by almost the entire population
of 400, 000 people of this city and as
many visitors. .

emblem floating to the breeze. This
was the occasion or outbursts of en-
thusiasm on the part of the veterans

war songs which carried them back to
memories of the days of "61.
The parade was led by mounted po-
lice. followed by the local grand mar-
shal. Next came post commanders-in-
chief of the Grand Army in carriages.
Then followed the national council of
, administration.
Only Grand Army posts participated.
Departments marched in the order of
seniority. with lllinois in the lead, ex-
cept that Ohio. by courtesy, took the
left of the line.

"The Wise Guy" comes to Hoyt's
Theatre for a one night engagement,
Friday night. This clever vaudeville
force. as it might be termed. has been
seen here before. to the moat gratify~
lug success. it is heralded as an inno-
vation in fart-e comedy. and every line
of this season's version is supported to
impart a laugh. “A Wise Guy" diners
from most of the present day socalled
farce comedies. inasmuch as it pre
seats in the leading character of Spike
Hennessy. “the Wise Guy." an artistic
character creation. a Bill Sykes in ap-
pearance. 3 Chuck Connors in dialect
. ~—in fact the accepted hard-working
son of the streets brimming over with
the gift of repartee. and whose bright
sayings and original mannerisms carry
the comedy element on his broad
shoulders for two acts and in those
two acts he never amps to bullooner y
or vulgarity to create a laugh but
plays the character as you see many
of the same kind in real lite. The man
agement of “A Wise/Guy“ submits a
cast of characters this. season that can
hardly be improved upon. tor this tree»

engaged. and each is credited with in-
dividual hits in characters of similar
nature with the "Wise Guy" last see—

Mistress Nell.
The special company that will pre
sent‘ Mistress Nell" ht floyt 3 Theatre
tonight and Thursday night has been
well equipped by Maurice Campbell
and comes with a car load of special
scenery and with beautiful properties
so that the “Mistress Nell" that will be
oflered to local theatre goers will be
identically the same no ran for al-
most the entire year at three theatres
in New York last season. The com
pany will be headed by Miss Agnes Ar
deck who has been coached by Hen
rietta Crossman and who scored a de
cided success in this play last year.
Though this is the first visit of this
organization here, the‘cuccene of “Mis-
tress Neil" has long ago preceded them
and the theatre will undoubtedly be
crowded tonight and tomorrow night.
