bridge was discussed, but as there

years. it was decided to try and do the
work hi such a way as to save the ma-
terial. The contract was given to
Thomas Malcolm, of Hartford. to be
done under the supervision of J. C.
Sperry, building foreman of the tele-
phone company, and it. was decided to
dynamite it as it was considered an-
safe to allow workmen to work upon
the shaky thing in tearing it down
piece by piece. fearing that it and the
men would drop into the river at any
time, without warning.
The structure will be taken apart nu~
der Mr. Malcolm's supervision. and
shipped by the telephone company
where desired. A telephone cable has
long crussed the river by way of the
old bridge. it is estimated that even:
tually the telephone. company will build
or to accommodate the cable and foot
passengers on both sides of the river.

able. figure, as they were yesterday sell
ing at. $1115 per bushel The changed
condition is due to the fact that orders
for potatoes took a big slump when
the [nice became fancy and there was
little demand for the article.
The same situation prevails in meats
but there has been no drop 111 the
prices.
Beef remains high, pork fair but
very little of either is being used
Poultiy.1’owls and chickens are meet
ing with a ready demand.
Eggs are still high this week. sell-
ing at 30 cents a dozen for strictly
country stock. l-‘inc print butter still
brings 28 cents. three cents above the
market price of a few weeks ago.
There is an abundance of water mel-
ons and peaches in the market at
present and both fruits are selling low.
