Fairc'hild and a lady friend. were rill-
ing on a tandem in Comno they met
with what might have been a serious
accident. They were riding on the
right side of the road near, the resi-
dence of John Stuart They noticed a
team approaching on the same side of
tJ;e road but as the team was on the
wrong side of the road they naturally
all: posed that the driver would turn
.as he could not help but see the
tandem on account of the bright head
light on the front hub. Hewe'vér he
either did not see the tandem or did
not care and drove right into them.
The tandem and wagon came together
With a crash throwing both the young
lady and Mr. Fairchlld to the ground
One of the latter’s bands was quite
badly hurt. The young lady escaped
injury, but was terribly frightened
They could not find out who the party
was in the wagon As soon as it hap
pened he drove Off as fast as the ani-
mal would go Then he turned around
and said “Are you hurt?" Without
waiting for an answer he drove on.
Charles Wakeman who was driving
back of the bicycle riders, soon arrived
upon the Scene and took the young
lady home. Gifford Sanford who was
riding with Mr Wakeman, rode on the
tandem with Mr. i‘airchild to Westport
The barn party and sale of fancy
articles. yesterday yesterday afternoon
and evening by Trinity Guild and
members of Holy Trinity Church on
the grounds of William G. Stapless
li'zllaadsome residence at State and
Combo streets. was a grand success
surpassing by far anything of its kind
ever given in Westport. The decora-
tions were said by many to be the
bandsomcst they ever saw Surely
there was never anything in Westport
that was as magnificent before. The
interior of Mr Staples's spacious barn
was a bower of flowers, flags and Jan
Ianese lanterns, which were a roused
very artistically. in one corn bias a
gypsy camp that was fiiiiniah'ed lux-
uriously. Two very pretty gypsy la.-
dies. or rather imitation gypsy Il’adi'cs.
were inside and could tell your tor.

They were real considerate. not telling

to come to each one. The horse stalls
in the barn were. transformed into
booths for the sale of fancy, articles.
