Hiram D. Perry is celebrating todni’
the thirty-sixth anniversary of his re-
lease from Audersonville prison, where
he was confined eleven months by the
rebels. Mr. Perry's reminiscences of
his experiences "during ‘ his incarcera-
tlon had the time of his role so are
very interesting. , Qn'the even iu'i day
of his release, with the other prison-
ers, he was allowed to walk out
through the gate. ,The passageway
was under a canopy of American and
peace flags. The first thing that was
given them was 9. tin cup. These they
filled with whiskey from nearby casks.
Each man had to drink some or the
liquor. if only a swallow. They were
then given a good cupoi coilee with u
very small piece of bread to eat. The
surgeon would allow the men no more.
for they knew that the men would die
if they ate any more in the iamisheri
condition they were in. Following this

tofiiacco they wanted. lilach,‘inan did

immediate use, as they were told that
they would receive more of the weed
when Jacksonville was reached. The
