bio. the caucus nominee. made a brief
statement. H11 rehearsed the fact that
he had been appealed to by members
of the bar to become the li'gurehend in

ing the request to now trike direction
of the matter and express their opin-
ems.
There was a painful sildncc and the
meeting passed on to the consideration
of other questions. A little later Mr.
Hotchkiss arose and with some fooling
said: “ l desire to congratulate the
members of the bar who pushed me

and buckbone they have displayed
here. They do not seem to entertain
the same sentiments publicly that they
have privately."
