Miss Benedict made a sweet looking
graduate and was attired in a charming
white gown. Her essay, which she de-
livered with clear enunciation and
good expression, was very interesting
in its treatise of the Yankee which was
her subject. A ,
Mr. Montgomery chose “Imperial-
ism” as thesubject of his essay and the
young man evinced much thoughtin
his composition. His statements were
concise and to the point and showed
that the young graduate has the power
of clothing his sentiments in well .ch'os-
en words edifying to his listeners.
At the, conclusion of the exercies
Rev. J. McClure Bellows addressed the
class after which he presented the
diplomas.
Miss Gertrude VanGall also made an
interesting address to the graduates
and friends.
The school room was prettily decorat-
ed for the occasion with the class colors
and a profusion of flowers.
After the presentation of diplomas
friends surrounded the graduates offer-
ing their congratulations.

Mrs. R. G. Hanford of Springwood
avenue, gave a most delightful pro-
gressive euchre party at her home
Wednesday afternoon. The house
was a dream of beauty in its fl'oral deco-

A Veteran Dead.
Hon. Edwin P. White. a member of
the Legislature from 1895 to 1897 died
at his home in Ridgefield Wednesday.

A Bloody Shirt Found at the Home of One of
the Accused.
S. Jackson Close, aged 78 years, the
postmaster 0f, the little'village of Stan—
wich, who was attacked and robbed by
burglars Monday night, died at his
home in that place Wednesday. He
was unconscious up to the time of his
death and was unable to give any in-
formation regarding the ali'air. Death
resulted from a blow on the head which
fractured the skull.
The four men, Fred Gann, Clarence
Green, \Villiam Smith and Wilbur Ad-
ams, who were arrested for alleged
connection with the case, were given a
hearing before Judge Barnes in the
local borough- court on a charge alleg-
ing assault with intent to kill. At the.

The Insane Hespital.

favorable minority report by Perry,
Belden &. Jones, simply against the en-
largement at Middletown as unwise
and expensive. If that report should
prevail, then the bill to erect a. hospital
in Norwalk will stand a chance.
