Seminoles Said to Be Killing All
the WhitesThey Meet.
REVENGE FOR LYNCEINGS
Every “'oman and Child of Earlsboxo,
Near the Border of the Seminole Na-
tion, Brought to a Place of Safety--
News of a Pitched Battle.
Kansas City, Mo., Jan. _13.——Great ex-
citement prevails over the meagre re-
ports from the Indian Territory of the
{Seminole uprising. Nothing more defi-
nite than yesterday morning’s state-
ment, that 150 reds had started on the
warpat‘n from Earlsboro; that they
were killing all the whites they met,and
that the whites were arming and hur-
rying their families out of the country,
has been received.
Although many stories, which were
not borne out by the facts, had pre—
viously been circulated from the Terri-
tory, so persistent have been the ru-
mors that the Seminoles were aveng-
ing the burning of two of their num-
ber that further news is awaited with
fear. '
Cavalry to the Scene.
ll'z‘skogee, I. T., Jan. 13.——Oi‘l‘icial cir-
ales. here are all astir over the news of
the Seminole upri‘lfing, and Marshal
B :nett, who was to leave for \‘v'ash-
i17.t011.has instponed the trip. and
left yesterday. with Deputy Ledbetter,
t'. r the scene of the trouble. A troop
of cavalry is now on the way to the
Seminole Nation. _
Marshal Bennett is well liked by the
Seminoles. who unanimousy indorsed
him in council for marshal ot‘ the
Northern District of the Indian Terri—
tory, and he has had numerous per-
sonal telegrams asking him to come at
once, on account of his popularity with
the Seminoles.
Information from Oklahoma City is
to the effect that 100 armed citizens
have started from that place for Earls-
boro on a special train to head off the
Seminoles and prevent a repetition of
the Maud Post Office massacre.

A PITCHED BATTLE REPORTED.
Refugees from Earlshoro Bring Alann-
ing News of the Uprising.
Shawnee, O. T., Jan. 13.——Trains on
the Choctaw branch of the ’Frisco
, Railroad have brought to this city ev-
ery woman and child from Earlsboro,
some 200 people. near the border of the
Seminole Nation. The burning at the
stake of McGeisey and Simpson, the
Seminole half-breeds, has greatly en-
raged the Seminoles, and they have
banded together and are riding over
the country. ,
A party of about 200 savages and
half—breeds rode into a neighborhood
eighteen miles southeast of Earlsboro
and began shooting through the doors
and windows of the house of a new
settler. Every person in the house
is reported to have been‘ killed.
The refugees from Earlsboro say that
about 10 o'clock Tuesday a pitched bat—
tle occurred, and that three families
were killed. There is a general upris-
mg.
Messengers have been sent to the
military station demanding immediate
aid. and protection. The people at
Maud have arranged wagons to take
the women and children out of the
country under guard of armed horse-
men. When the reports reached Earls—
boro the women and children were put
on the train and sent into Oklahoma.
A great many stopped as soon as they
got well across the Territory line, but
most of them came as far west as El
Reno. No names of the killed could
be learned.
The train officials say there is serious
trouble and some whites have been
killed, but the stories are probably ex-
aggerated.
A Reign of Terror.
Guthrie. O. T.. Jan. 13.——-Deputy mar-
shals arriving here from Maud report
a reign of terror in that section. A
dozen familiesare reported to have left
their farms in the vicinity of Maud.
One deputy brings a report that two
white men were captured by Seminole
bucks yesterday and put to the thumb
torture.
United States Marshal Thompson has
received instructions to send a force
of deputies to the line marking the
border of Oklahoma and the Indian
Territory. to co~operate with the In-
dian Territory officials in quelling the
threatened outbreaks.
Cra ve fears are entertained for home-
steaders on the borders The whole
country is aroused.

Railroad Agentaat ,Earlboro Tried His
Hand at Romancing.
Guthrie, O. T., Jan lS.—Gov. Barnes 7
has received information from the oifi-
cers at the scene of the reported upris-,
ing or the Seminow Indians that the
whole story was a myth.
The lndians are furious over the
burning of the two young Indians, one
of whom. at least. it is believed. was
innocent. of the crime charged, but the
Indian police, deputy marshals and
sheriffs have the Seminoles under con-
trol, and. no trouble is likely to hap-
pen.
The first account of the alleged up-
rising was sent out by the agent for
the Choctaw. Oklahoma and Gulf Rail-
way, at Earlsboro. I. 'I‘., to the train
despatcher at Kansas City. M0. The
story was a pure fabrication. originat-
ing with the railroad agent.
It was ascertained yesterday that the
burning of the two victims took place
about a hundred yards on this side of
the territorial line. hence in Oklahoma.
Governor Barnes last night issued,a.
proclamation offering $1.000 reward for
the arrest and conviction of the mem-
bers of the mob. The Governor also
telegraphed the officers of Pottawato-
mic County, where the crime was com-
mitied, that the people of the nation
looked to them to do everything pos-
sible to prevent further crime, and to
arrest and bring to justice all con-
cerned in the burning.
Killed by Earthquake.
The Hague, Holland. Jan. 13.—An of-
ficial dispatch from Batavia announces .
that the capital of Amboyna, one of
the Moluccas Islands, has been com-
pletely demolished by an earthquake.
Fifty persons were killed and 200 were
injured.
