the widow of the late Baron Hirsch,
comes into the possesion of her colos-
sal fortune, said to amount to a bun-
dred and thirty million dollars, will be
the greatest heiress in the world. It is
not strange that her tremendous inher-
itance has excited the cupidity of rival
claimants. Her mother was'a govern-
ass in the dead millionaire’s family—a
remarkably clever and pretty Parisi-
enne. Her father was the Ba1on’s only
son, who, it has always been under—
stood, was clandestin-ely married to the
good looking governess. It is now as—
serted that no ceremony was ever per-
$01med;o1 that if them was a. man-
riage, it 3'-. as not one recognized as val~
id by the laws of France. The result
may be an interesting and. p1ofitable
opening for the lawyers.
Mlle. Hi1sch, who is in her early
teens, has inheIited £10m her mother a
remarkably attractive face, and gives
promise of being as rich in beauty as
in fortune. From the time when the
late Baron Hirsch legally adopted her
as his daughter and heiress, the girl
has not been allowed to live with her

The sum of $200,000 has been set aside
for her maintenance and education.

tle Victoria of York, had the largest

union of King's Daughters will meet
to-day to prepare a petition to the Leg-
islature asking it to prohibit the game
of football in this State. Two college
teams will play a special game, to be
