DAILY GAZETTE.
During the coming Fair'we propose igsusng
a daily paper, as heretofore, providing that
our merchants, manufacturers, &c., give as
suitable encouragement in the way of ad-
vertising. The paper will contain the daily
programme of the Fair, general'news of the
day, as well as reports of the doings at the
Fair, local miscellany, etc. A good circula-
tion will be guaranteed.

"Lirampus Clu ” and later the gay and fes-
.tivc cI“Neptunes" have, during the past some
of years, so fully informed your readeis
concerning this “Isle of the sea" that little
is left for us to indite except in the way of
“glittering generalities” Suffice it to say
that we reached this camp meeting haven
at about five 11. m. of Saturday, after a
most delightful run of about five hours, in
the staunch and splendid steamer City of
Boston, and were greeted on the deck by a
delegation of the brightly uniformed and
radiant nosed Neptunes and escorted to that
magnificent shore palace the “Sea View
Housc,”where by reason of the thoughtful- .
ness of Neptunes George Raymond. and the
kind lnterccssions of Commodore Tompkins
and Treasurer J. T. Prowil't, we were as-
signed to the charming. cottage, No. 13, on
Ocean Avenue and but the third remove
from our hotel dining room. Among our
fellow voyagers over from New London
were, Increase Allen, Esq. ., Telegrapher
Johnny lon1 and Rev. Dr. Augustus and
his brother Edwin Beard. As our cottage
was more ample in its sleepingaccommoda-
lions than our party. required, the Beards
and Mr. Allen heightened our joy by eager
desires to share the same with us. Thus
we had a home party and when after an
ample “blue fish” supper the Neptunes came
up in force with congratulatory greetings
we felt we were in the midst of a Norwalk
consritucncy and masters of the situation.
In our ride up from the lower dock, we had
caught glimpses of many of the gay and
fanciful cottages nestled here and there so
thickly under the scrub oak trees. But
when piloted to Clinton Avenue to witness

The ninth annual reunion of the Seven-
teenth Regiment, C. V, will be held on Sat-
urday next, Aug. 28th.
The business meeting will be held in the
Burnside Guards Armory, South Norwalk.
Soldiers from this vicinity will assemble at
the depot to welcome the visiting comrades,
and as soon after ten o’clock as possible all
will proceed to the armory where the neces-
sary business of the association will be
transacted, including the election of officers
for the ensuing year.
At about twelve o’clock the regiment will
be called into line and headed by the Whee-
lcrdr Wilson Brass Band, proceed to the
Amphitheatre Grounds, in the Borough,
' where the collation will be, spread, and the
' rifle shooting and other amusements take
place.
The line of march will be through West
avenue and Main street to Cross street,
thence to the Amphitheatre. No display
will be made except that citizens are re-
quested to decorate their residences with
flags.
Soldiers of other regimentsattending will
be furnished with badges which will con-
stitute them recognized guests of the Seven-
teenth and willIbe entertained as such. The
Regimental Association engages and pays
for the band. The resident soldiers, through
the liberality of our citizens, supply the eat-
ables and meet the other necessary expenses.
All persons willing to donate either money
or food of any kind, are requested to com-
municate with the committee,R. R. Ells, C.
F. Marvin, or Chauncey C. Platt for up-
town, or C. E. Doty, or Wm. O. Merritt, So.
Norwalk. Articles may be sent to the va-
cant store, No. 47 Main street, next door to
Messrs. Prowitt’s Hardware store, on the

Mr. Merritt.
Our citizens are invited to visit the Am-
phitheatre to witness the gathering and to
listen to the excellent music which will be
rendered by the band. One and all will be
welcome to this part of the entertainment.
A committee meeting will be held at the
Old Well H. & L. House on Wednesday
evening next to perfect arrangements.
The condition of Wall street, between the
Danbury bridgeway and Isaac’s hill has
justly awakened serious apprehensions as to
possible effects upon the public health. Our
borough authorities have earnestly consid-
ered the matter and resolved to remedy the
afternoon or evening of Friday, 27th inst";"
Another Fire at South. Norwalk.
At about half past four, yesterday
morning, a fire was discovered between the
two wooden buildings owned by C. H. Har-
.vey, on Main street, and occupied by himself
and Wm. iLavallec, the former as a shoe
the proprietors families occupying the upper
portidn. The fire was first discovered by
Mrs. Chas. James, who gave the alarm. The
flames soon destroyed the above stores and
then spread north and south, burning the
stores of Thomas Howley, occupied as gro-
cery and liquor store. Next the liquor
saloon of Simon McNamara—in both of
which families lived above. On the south
the residence of John McQuhae, was soon
destrdycd. His blacksmith shop was pulled
down by order of Mayor Quintard so as to
save the 'Hat Factory of A.‘;Solman. The
wind was blowing from the north-east, else
the conflagration would no doubt have
swept over a large extent of territory and
make a sad destruction of property. Ex-
tensive sparks spread in all directions and
set fire to the dwelling occupied by Chas. R_
Townsend and owned by D. P. Ely, but
which was soon extinguished.
The Norwalk Fire Department were noti-
fied by Horatio Brown and immediately re-
sponded, arriving in timc'to save the stores
of Wm. Stadler and F. H. Nash & Broth.
ers. The steamer took water from the Old
Well Hotel cisterns and the’afire was soon
after extinguished. Mr. Harvey’s loss is
total, the other parties got out most of their
effects, but nevertheless their losses will be
quite severe. '
INSURANCE.
Mr. Harvey had $5000 on his stock and
$4,000 on the two buildings. ‘
' "' 'Mr. McQuhae had $2,000 on his dwelling,
and his shops having been demolished by
order of the Mayor, will of course be re-
built or paid for by the city.
Lavalloe was insured for $1, 000 on Stock.
Michael. DeMons owned the building
sured.
, Mr. Methae’ has removed his family
to the house recently occupied by C. F-
Tplics on Washington street. The whole
fireuntil it was extinguished. It was by
dint of the most desperate effort that the
grocery store of Geo. W.‘ Smith, on the op-
posite side ofthe way. was saved. Had his
large building taken fire, it would have
been almost impossible to have arrested the
flames until.

.don’tthink you have; so, having nothing
to compare it to, it must be relegated to the
regions of the “unknowable” and indescrib-
able. Ice cream and watermelons, ginger
ale and muskmelons, root beer and fruit
cakewall these and other articles of re-
freshment crowded and loaded down the
temporary tables erected in the court-yard,
and we and our friends and the ladies pres
ent bad as good a. time as we could' in view
of the limited space with which Nature has
provided us- for the reception of catahlcs.
More enjoyable than the eatables and drink-
ables named above Were the spirits brought
out. Shudder not,O total abstainersl 111'-
though ardent, these are harmless and benc-
ficial. I mean the spirit of hospitality, of
which our admired and beloved sister Nep-
tune, Mrs. Spinney, is so prominent an ex-
ample; the spirit of brotherly love, in which
all good Neptuues meet and part, and the
are always manifested by our friends at the
Vineyard ,Iand seemed stronger than ever at
this reception. Very pleasing and instruct-
ive remarks were made by Mr. Spinney, by
Rev. Mr. Hamilton, our Chaplain, by our
brother Miller, of Brewster’s, and Mr. Willis
madea short speech, in his characteristic
style. Saturday evening W'BS' the annual il-'
lumination of Clinton avenue; it was :1
scene from fairy-land. As your “senior”-
was there, I shall not attempt to describe it;
his experienced pen can do justice to it, if
any can. Sunday morning Chaplain Haiti-
ilton gave us an excellent 'sermon at the
Union Chapel, our Organist presiding, and'
the Amherst Quintette leading the singing.

Be it ordained by the Court of Burgesses. of the
Boron h of Norwalk.
See. .No person, persons or corporltion being
the owner or owners of any land Within the limits
of the Borough, or having an interest for life
therein, shall snfl‘cr to remain. or continue there-
on, any embankment, 'ptle of dirt, brick wall, stone
wall, pile of stone, or hullding, or structure of any
' kind, adjoining any sidewalk or highway in said
Borough, in such a. condition or state as to em
danger public travel on or use of said sidewalk or
highway, or so as in anyway to annoi, ,impche,I ob-
struct or encumber the same, or 11111 c said airle-
walk or highway inconvenient or unsafe in any
way or to any extent, for public travel or use, and

and not exceeding ten dollars.
