During the present week, Dr. and Mrs. R.
C. M. Page will close their house here and
take up winter quarters in New York. The
Dr. will practice his profession there. .Resi-
ding for sixteen years among this people, at
all times interesting herself in social mat-
ters and the general welfare. always ready
to aid, and liberally when called upon so to
do, the departure of Mrs. Page, which as
some venture to interpret it is to' be per-
manent, will be accepted ‘with regret.

Mr. S. Denmead, of Saugatuck, is improv-

Rev. C. M. Selleck, of Norwalk, preached
at Christ church Sunday afternoon. At the
morning service in the same church Mr. An-
drew S, Nash officiated as lay reader, in the
absence, by reason of the continued illness
of Rev. Mr. Williams.
It is reported that Miss Betsy A. Tuttlc,
daughter of Alonzo Tuttle, is quite ill with
what appears to be typhoid fever, and that
there are quite a number of cases of male-
rial fever in town.
On Friday morning Mr. Jerome _Meeker
of Cross Highway, died suddenly. He was
son of Mr. David Meeker.
“ It is the finest road in town,” is what
they say of the widened, graded and im-
proved depot thorougfare. The only ques-
tion requiring a satisfactory answer is, can
it be kept so. . .

raging in the forests near West Point, on the
Hudson. The largest fire was near the
crest of the old Crow’s Nest, and fears were
entertained that the fire would reach the
Government buildings on the upper side of
