and all notes and bills of exchange falling
duevon that day shall be payable the next

An act relative to the appointment and
salaries of the general railroad commis-
sioners. -

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre‘
sentativbs in General Assembly convened:

Sec. 1. The governor, with the advice and
consent of the senate, shall, before .the
twenty-ﬁfth day of July 1874, and before
the fourth day of July in each succeeding
year, appoint some competent person to ﬁll
the vacancy annually occurring in the board
of railroad commissioners; the governor
may at an time remove a commissioner. for
cause; an in case ofanyvacancy occurring
in the board by resignation, removal or
otherwise, he shall, in the same manner,
appoint a commissioner for the residuers'l'
the term; provided that in cases vacancy
occur when the general assembly is not in

power to ﬁll the vacancy, but the commis-
sioner so appointed shall hold oﬂlce only
until the nextsession of the general assem-
bly, or. until his successor is appointed, un-
less his appointment be conﬁrmed by the
senate. . -' '

Sec. 2. The .annual salary .of each com-
missioner shall be three. thousand dollars,
which shall be in fullfor all fees and ex-
penses now allowed bylaw. .
Sec..8. The board of railroad commis-
sioners shall appoint a clerk, whose annual
salary shall not exceed eighteen hundred

dollars, and the oﬁice of the. commissioner

shall be kept open during the business hours
of every secular day of the week except
legal holidays. .
, Sec. 4. The expenses of the board of rail-'
road commissioners, including salaries, shall
he aid quarterly from the state treasury;
an 7 in the monthof July in each year, the
whole amount of said expenses during” the
year ending on the fourth day of July, shall
a apportioned by the comptroller, to. be
paid by the several railroad companies in
proportion to the length of the main » track
or tracks of the respective. railroads within
the limits of this state; and each- company,

partiesoperaiing any road, ’shall pay into

Sec. 5. All acts and parts of acts incon-
