Rev. Mr. Rogers, agent of the Domestic
Missionary Society of the Protestant
Episcopal church, presented the claims of
that institution to. the people of Christ
church last Sunday morning. In the ailer-
noon, in company with Rev. Mr. Williams,
he participated ii a special service at
Cranberry Plains.

Rev. Dr. Sanderson, of the Congrega-
tional church, gave an interrs ing discourse
on the the subject, "a wheel within a
wheel,” based I on the Bible story of the
vision of Daniel.

The most peculiar cow in town is that
owned by a farmer whose name we with-
hold for fear he might give us a poke. This
cow does not give butter milk; but she
gives all but 'er milk.

Tomorrow the picnic of Assumption

A Review and Dress Parade will be held at
4 o‘clock. and a grand Ball will be held under
the test, as announced in our last. The at-
tendance will undoubtedly be large, and the
occasion one long to be remembered by the
good people of Weston.

BRIDGEPORT.

At the City election last week, the propo-
sition to buy the Water Works of the
Bridgeport Water Company was voted
down by yeas 328, ya a, 358.

Sunday morning, r. Patrick Riley, a
stone polisher in the employ of Mr. B.
Ellis, while assisting in removing a large
piece or granite from the dock to the yard,
was severely injured by bein 'caught be-
tween the crank of the derric and one of
the posts which support the building over-
head. Mr. Riley had hold oftlre crank at
the time, and was holding it, in position
about breast high, while the crane of the
derrick was being slowly swung around.
As he backed up against the post the crank
pressed against his abdomen and crushed
him. It was feared that he had sustained
severe internal injuries, but after examina-
tion the Doctor decided that there had been
no rupture. He was removed to his house
in Arch street about nine o’clock,and al.
though his sufi'erings are very, painful it is
thought he will soon recover.

_ Mr. John North has sold his Nursery to
Hartford parties for $14,500.

Ground was broken for the new factory
of Messrs. Hotchkiss Sons, on South avenue
extension, near the Malleable Iron Works,
on Friday last.

Mr. Hezekiah Smith, the milkmau whose
leg was broken early in Jul , suffered the
amputation of that member aturds at his
residence on Chestnut Hill, Trumbul .
