WESTON.
Gov. Ingersoll has formally accepted the
invitation of Commissary General, Andrew
S. Jarvis of the Weston Military Institute,
to visit his school on the occasion of its
annual commencement,- Aug'ust, 22d,'1873.
The Governor, accompanied by his staff, will
reach Westport at 9:17, a. in, of that day
and proceed by back, through Westlml't
village to Weston. The chrcises at Weston
will consist .of Inspection, Review, Dress
Parade, Dinner, and grand Ball in theeven-
ing, under the County Agricultural Soci cty’ 3
large tent. A. B. Cotbusiet' will act a‘s fioo1
manage1 at the Ball, and will be fo1n1ally
presented, by the ladies,- with a cane which
can now be seen at Jackson' 9 Jewelry store,
Norwalk. The Wheelertb Wilson Band
will furnish; music. The Review takes
place at4 o’clock, p. m. A large number
oi patrons and friends of'the school are ex-
pected to be present.

The new Fair building' 15 new in course
of construction, and will be completed 1n
time for the annual Fair. The building is
commodius, and will be a grand improve-
ment upon the old tent.

On Thursday last the yacht Sully,
Cove Neck, Long Island, started for a three
twelve gentlemen from Westport and sur-
rounding towns, in quest of pleasure and
fish,particularly fish. After much prepa-
ration, including provisions very ample for
the palate, the start was made from Sauga-
tuck., A spanking breeze greeted the ex-
cursionists after they passed Cedar Point
and the buoy and they steered 11 direct
course for Port Jefferson, Long Island,
reaching there ahead of time and so easily
that they concluded to keep on to Green-
point where they passed the night in compa-
ny with the Atlantic Yacht Squadron
which had arrived there before them. On
Friday, among the trees and shades of
Grecnpoint they had a clambake and fish
chowder,fi1'st as we understand. catching
their own fish. We will not dwell on this
pointhowever as there seems to be clouds
of doubt and uncertainty hanging around.
It is positive, at any rate, that they had a
glorious time and during the day taught. the
New York yachts a lesson they will not
seen forget viz., that the Sully, making no
pretensions, has the quality of speed which
boatmen- seek for and admire. Friday
night they sailed further on and Saturday
mowing t'dtind them 1n 1). state of mind
totally oblivious to the need of getting
home: ..They continued to sail and met
high winds, and seas running mountain
high,.bntjgracefully rode through them all
and did notshlp a wave; during Saturday
they thought of making New Haven, but
trolling for blue fish put them ofl' the notion
and the decline of day brought them west-
ward once more. Early Sunday morning
they made Weslport harbor and anchored
below the railroad bridge in ample time for
all ‘hands to dress for church. Not one of
the party was sea-sick, and each is anxious
when next year comes round to try the trip
over again.

Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Hurlbutt returned
from a ltrip to tbeICatskill Mountains on
Saturday evening.
The remains of the'late Mrs. Croft will
leave Paris, per steamer for the United
States on August 18th. They will be ac-
companied by Mrs. M. F. Winslow, sister of
deceased, who for the past year has travel-
ed 1n Europe.
Captain Charles Elwood has arrived
home. He went abroad some months since'
in the brig E. F. Eaton. While in Eng-
land he sold her and returned to New York
by Steamer.
Arrangements are making'fl'or a fine time
'at the Cedar Point Regatta on Wednesday.
The prizes being each in cash, with a small
entrance fee, will induce many to come
forward with their boats. _
Good chances now to register dogs before
some chance shot perforates them.
Mr. Chauncey Coley, whose funeral took
place on Saturday, and whose death, under
oc-
ourred- on Wednesday last, in Coley town,
was well knOwn' 1n WeslpIort having' been
in business here some years ago.
Mr. J. Mills took a picnic party to the
‘Devils Den” last Thursday.
The annual picnic of the Roman Catholic
Suhday SchOol, will be held 1n Mrs. |Wins-
low‘ 5 grove, Friday 15th.
Mr. Samuel Harris, of- this place, met
with a serious accident at the South Nor-
walk Depot Saturday evening. He had
been to Danbury, and reaching South N or-
walk in time, thought he would take the
night train to Westport. He waited, how-
ever until the train had started before get-
ting on, and missing his hol_d, fell. His
right foIot was crushed to the instep, his left
horribly cut, one tooth knocked out, and
his face disfigulmcd In that condition he
was picked up, and taken into the depot.
The train buckeddown to learn what was
the matter. Duliill advised amputation
of the injured limb which was done with
the aid of other surgeons, the patient having
first been put under the influence of chloro-
form. At 11 p. m., Mr. H. was conveyed
to his home here and at present is doing
well as could be expected.
Sunday’s temperature was agreeable.
The thermometer, out of regard for sufi‘er—
ing humanity kept a respectful distance
below 80 degrees. PAUL.

Rev. Thomas Tileston Waterman, whose

when his son. was four years of age. His
first sermon was preached in his fathers,
pulpit, while the church edifice was still drap-
