this town sent some blooded stock, consist-
ing of a horse, a bull and two calves to

The funeral of Mrs. Susan Thorpe took
place at Christ Church on Sunday afternoon
last. It will be remembered that this person
while at the home of Mrs. Lorenzo Tultle
fell down stairs and received fatal injuries.
The numerous friends of Rev. Mr. Hetrick
will regret his resignalion of the pastorate
of the Congregational church where ‘he has
ofllciated With so mucli satisfaction for a
term of years.
On June 11th if the weather proves fair,
Cedar Point will be the scene of an inter-
esting Regatta, boats of all sizes and lengths
owned between Bridgeport and Stamford
will alone be allowed to 'compete for prizes.
By reference to printed posters it looks like
fair play this time. The prizes are valuable
and may be seen at Wheeler’s jewelry store,
'iiiain st.
The N. Y. &. N. H. R. R. Co. have done a
good thing for the traveling public in reduc-
ing its fares 11 per com—making 30 cents
difference in price for a trip to N. Y. and
return. The excursion ticket scheme meets
with favor, but we believe the people would
like it better if the Company would make
tickets good for two or three days instead 01
one.
The roadway through peat swamp has
been in a bad condition for some time by

reason of a series of mud puddles left by tlic/
frost. To get through the swamp with'a
horse and wagon' Of late, one has had to
make the letter S three or four times. We
are happy to say the holes have been filled
with gravel, and the bushes ‘ and briars
which have so long thrust their branches to
catch the gothing of pedestrians, have been
nicely trimmed down. ‘ .
Michael Cook has been for some time in-
clined to take things not belonging to him,
- His last attempt was at the cellar of Rufus
pouch. Among other things “taken” was
a‘pail of cider, which the thief proceeded to
drink right under the window of Mr. Couch.
It was night. He took more than one good
horn and feeling pretty fair by reason thenc-
of, kept on taking until he found himself not
in condition to walk off with the plunder
which he had hoisted from the cellar. Ir
the morning Mr. Couch discovered what had
taken place but failed tofind the perpetrator.
Suspecting Cook, he went to find him out,
and found him out indeed. ' Oflicar Goodrich
was detailed to hunt him up' but did not
succeed until last Thursday. Cook was
atakeu‘before Justice Goodsell found guilty
ofvtlieft and sent to Bridgeport to await
trial. .
