Our people are pleased to see in this actior
an indication that the. road will be speedily
built. l‘l ith less than $1,000,000 of the
stock subscribed for, and that can be done
before May lst, with the right kind of men
to liianage, the work of building may be
commenced. The balance of $3,000.000 can
be raised issuing bonds bearing a fair rate
ofinterest. The scheme begins to exhibit a
proper complexion.
A bluebird visited us the other day, but
did not sing. He canre too early and his

For the past 30 years or thereabouts, she,
familiarly called “Aunt Lucy,” has inhabited
“Great. Marsh” in Westport harbor. Far
wide was she known as a'most expert digger
of clams and catcher of fish, and it is estima-
ted that every inch of clam soil within a
radius of two miles from where she (lWL‘Ii '
had‘been many times dug over. Herlo; was
humble and her cottage lowly, yet she was
courteous and obiiging to such as, on their
way to fishing rocks, needed bait, and
always pleased at opportunities to serve
them. By her presence a ltrnely region was
brightened and the stranger could say, ashe
gazed upon the barren waste, with its single
isolated hut, “Somebody lives there," and
the mariner coming up the harbor saw the
light in her window and was made happy.
From boyhood we have known “Aunt
Lucy.” Once a happy family surrounded
her, but the laws of change and adversity
thus far in the revival now going forward
in the Beaver street Methodist church.
At her Reading Reception last Wednes-
cveuing, Miss Potter was assisted by Miss.
Ridgcway, the sweet vocalist. The enter?
tainmcnt was one of the most pleasing and
enjoyable of the season.

WESTON.
Thursday evening, Feb. 8th. was an occa-
sion long to be remembered not only by the
cadets of the Weston Boarding School, but
by all who were fortunate enough to be
present and participate in the festivities
which we are about to refer to. It was the
occasion of the Annual Sdiree given to tilt
cadets, by the gentle-manly proprietor of the
school, Mr. A. S. Jarvis, and one which
called together a brilliant assemblage 01
youth and beauty from the adjacent towns.
while not a few were present from New
York city, friends and relatives of the young
gentlemen connected with the school.
In the early part of the day the school
rooms were dismantled of the usual school
furniture, and were. soon metamarphosed
into dancing rooms, for which purpose their
large size specially fitted them. The music
was furnished by Howc’s Orchestra Band,
of Bridgeport. The tasteful decorations, the
brilliant lights, the display of banners and
insigna of the school served to add- to the
effect or the scene, which was wrought to
its fullest height by the entrance of the
cadets in full uniform, accompanied by their
fair partners.
Under the inspiritiug influence of the music
the dancing commenced, and was kept up
with untiring interest till the summons to
the refreshment table. Here the guests
found a magnificent entertainment provided
for them by the generous principal of the
school, and they gave evidence of their ap-'
preciation of it in a most effective manner
In the meantime the older guests were enter-
tained quite as generously in the ample
dining rooms of the school. When the inner
man had been fully fortified, dancing was
again resumed and kept up “till the Wee
small hours ayont the twall,” no one seem-
ing’to dream of fatigue, so thoroughly did
they seem to enter into the enjoyment ot
the evening. Mr. Jarvis seemed heartily in
earnest that all should enjoy themselves,
and it was the universa. testimony of tllosl
present that the affair wasa decided success,

floor managers for the perfect arrangements
made and carried out in the whole affair.
