The ladies of the M. E. Society are to hold
a Festival in' the Lecture Room of the
church on Wednesday and Thursday eveni

It may be interesting to the older citizens of
this'place to state that Mr. Ward-Nichols of
New Haven, oldest * official on 'the N. 'Y. &
N. H. B. R. and a former well known resi-
dent of Westport, was married to Mrs Re-
becka Durant of. South »Boston,.Mass. on
Thursday Feb. 16. ‘ After} spending a few
days at the, “Hub” by way of celebrating the
honey moon, business compelled him to is-
sue his “check” for a' “return” and with his
fair bride proceeded to conduct her (conduc.
tor) to her future home, where she will
hencefomard appear as “Rebekah” at the_
.“well” furnished house in. the “new haven”
of her abode and instead of “Ward”-ing off
the old “Nick” as perhaps under other cir-
cumstances she might be tempted to do,will
ex lend a hearty welcome to him, as he “pas-
:ses” over the road, and finishes his daily
“return trip.” May no “break” occur to dis-
turb the “train” of his long prospect of hap-
piness. _ . . ,’
There has been less of night carousing

Up ” became a fixed fact, than ever before.

concur in the general impression that she is

The fact that several of the heavier sub-.
scribers to the Saugatuck Valley Railroad
stock are taking a personal interest in the
success of that enterprise, gives promise that
it may after all meet the expectations which

John B. Gough lectured on Temperance
- The New York East conference of the
Methodist Episcopal church will meet in
Stamford on Wednesday, April 5th, and
continue in session until the Monday or

eastern half of New York city, and all our
own State west of the Connecticut river,
