On Tuesday evening several families uni-
ted and gave Mr. Charles Thames a grand
“Masked Fantastic Surprise Party," which
preved a great success.
The same evening the children of Capt.
Sammis's.family gave a party, and they had
a good time as they always do when the
Capt. has anything to do with it. .
' It is rumored that the Sons of Temper-
anceare about “coming down” on the Rum
shops of this vicinity. g
The market sloop Julia, Capt. Lockwood,
resumes her trips for the season, the present
week, between here and New York. She
has recently been repaired and put in first-
closs order. ’
In the Gazette of Jan. 11th your corres-
pondent stated that the number of letters
which passed through Rowayton P. O. for
the previous six months were 4,000. It
'. should have been 7,000, the former being
the number which were sent from the ofllce,
and 3,000 being the estimated number which
were received at the same. So says our P.

over and killed on Friday night last, while

started and she was advised not to attempt

thrown undor the wheels and instantly

Mr. & Mrs. Seaman Mead were “surpris-
ed" recently by their many friends. The
occasion was the tenth anniversary of their
wedding and tin ware, hilarity and good

A revival is progressing in the M. E.
church.
A surprise part was held at the house of
the Pastor of the . E. church recently, and
the Pastor and his wife were suitably “re-
membered.” .
One by one the landmarks disappear. The
well known Dinner Rocks, near M_r. Isaac
Williams', are being blasted away in order
to widen and improve the road. twas on
these rocks, during the Revolution, the
British soldiers dined while encamped in
this vicinity, and it is said that clam shells
thrown there by them are constantly un-
earthed.
