very wanton piece of cruelty, to ‘ say the
least, perpetrated by Supt. Hoyt upon the
poor little Italian urchin who varies the
nuisance which the New Haven Company
sells, (allowing all manner of circulars and
stuff to be thrust under your nose) by Tid-
diing in the cars while passing up 42d street.
It would Seem the little Lilliput was caught
by the Supt. fiddling in the ears, when be
seized his fiddle and here it oll‘ in triumph
into the President’s oyster stall, and then
threw the boys’ cap off the train. Some out
seeing the muss threw the cap back, and the
urchin stood his ground in the corner of the
car crying for his fiddle as if his heart would
break. Meantime the cars started and bore
off the boy, who, it has since transpired,
dared not return home without his instru-
ment for fear of punishment. Continuing
his crying’he was crowded out onto the plat-
form from which became near falling, and
so frightened a gentleman in an adjoining
car that he seized the lad and' brought him
in there. The stolen fiddle was still kept,
Supt. Hoyt getting off the train and passing
to his peaceful home in , Stamford, entirel
indifferent to the misery of this poor child,
(who had no doubt been whipped into en-
tering the cars, as he was invariably malr
treated,) and quite as indid‘eilent to the dis
tress oflhis parents at his non return home.

j—Some workmen on the Utah Central
Railroad, in levelinga large mound in Salt
Lake City, came upon great quantities ol
bones fragments of pottery, flint arrow-
heads, picees of sulpher, and other Indian
relics. A lone: row of tire-places was also
discovered. The mound which was a very
large one for this country, seems to have
been formed by the remains of the dead ;
scarcely a shovelfui can be removed with-
out disturbing bones. How long a period
has elap‘sed since they were buried is dif-
cult to determine. All small hours and
softcr portions of the large ones have (ii:-
appeared, and no vestage of hair has been
discovered. The bones are of uncommon
size, approaching the gigantic.

powder, and thinking it contained some-
thing good to eat, set it on the stove to
warm. He will not eat anything more.
