A BRIDAL Course IN A SHOWER BATH.—
Cora Mowatt, who is writing foreign letters
for the San Francisco Chronicle, tells a story
of a bridal pair, making the tour of Switzer-
land, who recently came to a crowded hotel
and were informed by the landlord that
there was only one unoccupied room in the
house, the bath room, and that 'a couple of
beds might be made inthe two baths that it
contained. The youthful couple Were well
pleased to secure even this shelter, after a fa-
tiguing journey, and retired to rest. An
hour or‘ two later, the stillness of the night
wassuddcnly broken by the shrieks of dis-
tress issuing trom the bath roam. The lady
wishing to summon a servant, had pulled
what she presumed was a bell-rope suspend-A
ed over her head, when sudeuly she was in-
undated by e shower of cold water. The
gentleman; roused: by her cries, and not
quite comprehending: the position, also pull-
ed a supposed lbell-rope,‘which he felt dan-
gling over his beth:bed, to bring him a do-
mestic, but brought inltead‘a shower of hot
water over hirnselfi. Itwas quite dark, and.
neither the bride nor “ bridegroom could;

of a double tenement house, to cost not over
$1,000. The lens were to be drawn for
sin le lots of feet front, with fence and
on one, building to be plastered end oint-
ed. The plane were furnished and e re-
wards were paid. The committee of the
Bank report:
. “ During 1866 forty houses were erected -
in Chicago byMeeers. . Seaverns &
Brother” which in no case exceeded .600,
varying to cost from .850 to 8600. This in-
cludes fences, outhouses, blinds in front and
summer kitchens in rear of each. One of
the houses has been finished with blinds on
all the windows, a piazza in front, a cistern
holding tw'ent barrels of water, with water
leaders comp etc from the roof, sink and
pump In the kitchen, and storage for fuel
and tools under the house, at a cost (as stat-
ed b the occupant and owner) of 0678 for
the once and a urtenances, and for the
lot, 25x100 feet, ; total cost of house
and lot.$978. These houses are all small
and plaml built, but theyare complete and
quite co orteble. They are all p ,
and neatly painted inside and out. The is-
dies on the committee have visited and ex-
amined these buildings, and were much gre-
tified to find that so much could be done for
