resolution so as to provide'that said road
shall not borrow money to an amount ex-
ceeding two-thirds Of the amount actually
expended upon the road—said amount to be
ascertained by the sworn statement Of the
chief engineer Of the road.
The amendment passed.
Mr. Bartlett of Derby moved to further
amend so as to require a. vote of at least two-
thirds of the voters present at. the town
meeting in order to cnablea town to sub-
scribe to the capital stock; passed.
Mr. Bartlett moved to further amend so as
require at least ten days notice of such town
meetings, and to provide that said notice
shall be posted in all school districts in the
towns; passed.
Mr. Bartlett of Derby then moved to fur:
'. ther amend by substituting for the 10th sec-
tion which provides that mining, manufac-
t wing and mechanical associations situated
in towns along the road and in the town of
New .Haven may subscribe to the capital
stock of this company by a unanimous vote
of the. stockholders—the record of said vote to
be signed by every stockholder, the motion
prevailed—ayes 90, nays 50.

lic was reported against and rejects-d.
A bill which provides that the law that
regulates the taxing of propert belonging
to incorporations situated in di erent towns
still apply to cases of property belonging to
corporations situated in different school dis-
tricts, was reported favorably upon, and after
explanation by Mr. Averill, it was passed. .
The New England and Eric Railrbad bill
taken up. The question before the House
ins the motion of Mr. Bennett, of Hunting-
ton, to strike out the 8th section, allowing
the towns to take stOck. '
Mr. Averill spoke against the section. He
was Opposed to- the principle it contained.
He had given notice on the vote on the prev-
ious bills, that it should not be a precedent
for him in the case of an other bill. His
constituents did notwantt e privilege gratit-
ed by the section, and that was the case in
adjoining towns.
was thorn Fairfield County except Mr. Ben-
nett. They had not been consulted about
the road, and they did not want to be fumed
to hold meetings. They wantedto know
something about the men engaged in the
project, and 'about the project itself, before
they were putin the bill. If the section was
not stricken out, he should move to except
the towns in the 11th Senatorial District.
Mr. Waller calledfor the previous ques-
tion. It was ordered and the ayes and nays
were then called on the motion to strike out
the 8th section, with the .followimr result:
Ayes,_124’;' nays,.63; absent, 50. The bill
was then passed:
Mr. Graves called up the resolutioi pro-
viding that the General Assembly shall ad-
jlourn on the 3rd of July next.
‘he resolutiOn was discussed by Messrs Ea-
ton, Phelps of Simsbury, Averill against, and
Graves and Waller for it.
There were two resolutions one appointing
the 3d day of J uly, which was defeated with-
out a count. The other appointing the 3d

Mr. Hotchkiss opposed the bill, because it
would interfere with the Ridgetield road
chartered last year. .
Mr. Bartlettreplied that no one on the line
of the Ridgeficld road opposed this exten-
sion. Ifthat road was built, all the damage
tha‘t1 would result would be to the Danbury
roa .
Mr. Averillsuid that the bill did not per-
mit a consolidation such as intimated. The

to connect with other roads and to be leas-
ed by or to lease connecting roads.

except the one who had written to Mr. Ea-
ton, opposed the road, but all were anxious
for the passage of the bill. The branch

bill, and give them a road which would do
