A letter from Japan to the N. Y. Times,
dated March 18. gives the following descrip-
tion of the terrible and singular method
which the Japanese have, of executing their
qfiicial dignitaries : ( in the 2nd of this month,
at 1:15 P. 31., ill one of the Iliogo telli-

les, suffered death. He was the Secretary
of Prince Bezcn, and gave. the order to fire
on the foreigners. The combined powers

This is the famous Ital-‘1' kari allowed to ofii-
cers of position as an alternative of disgrace.
