The people of this enterprising little town are much
eluted with the prospect of hearing the whistle ofthe
Locomotive in their village sometime during the
month of May.
Already Real Estate has commenced an upward
movement, and the Remand for dwellings is much
greater than the supply. Two new shoe factories
have been opened this Spring in addition to those be
fire established.
‘ Messrs Comatock do Rogezs, whose business in the
manufacture ofclothing has so increased as to demand
their entire energies, have disposed of their retail dc-
partment with the exception of cloths and clothing to
Mr. J. V. Rockwell an enterprising merchant from
New York, who has fitted up his store in the most ap-
proved modern style and filled it with a large assort-
ment of the best goods, which he offers at the lowest
““511 Prices. Mr. Rockwell aspires to make his at-
tractive and popular as the old Conistock store
ever was in its palmiest days.
In anticipation of a large demand for building
materials a saw and planing mill, connected
with a sash and blind factory is to be established.

a imuiate and promote the prosperity and rapid
growth of iliis town. '
RIDGEFIEIJV ST.\TION.—Thc half way house. a well
established Hotel for the past 30 years, is offered for
sale, on account of the illness of its proprietor, Mr. S.
1’ cars. The business at this stand can be largely in-
creased and the opening is a good one fora person de-
siring to keep a country Hotel. A store with a good
business is connected with the house, besides a quan-

DANBURY.
Rev. Henry Powers is to be formally installed over
the West Street Cong’l Church, next Wednesday,
April 15th. The Council will meet at 2 o'clock in the
:fteruoon for the examination of the Pastor elect, and
at 73.5 o‘clock in the evening, the installation service
will take place.
The popular conductor of the passenger train on the
Dnnbury A Norwalk Railroad has been uniformed.
The suit is of navy blue, and looks very neat. The
baggage master and brakemen are likewise to be pro-
vided for.
St. James Church will be reopened by the Bishops
of the Diocese, on Easter Tuesday, April 14th, services
ccmmenceiug at 11 A. in, also evening services at 7};
r. x.
The new sett of instruments for the Bartram &. Fan-
ton Cornet Band have been received. They are of the
Schi'eiber patent.
The new hats for our Fire Department have arrived
and are receiving a coat of paint, after which they
will be ready for the firemen. They are made of wool
and are the same style as those worn by New York
firemen.
Mr. Lewis B. Stevens, of Mill Plain, found in apiece
of swamp on his farm, last week, a turtle weighing
twenty pounds. The monster has been sent to New
York.
A little son of Mr. Louis Moegliug was considerably
injured, last week, by having some lumber fall upon
him.
Mr. Frederick Starr has sold his place on Elm Street
occupied by Dr. G. C. Richards, to Mr. Tumey Bulk-
ley. for 95,800
Mr. Currier, proprietor of the Turner House fell
down stairs and dislocated his shoulder, on Wednes
day—Times. , .
The building on White Street, formerly occupied by
W. Wright, is having a story added to it, making it a
three-story building.
Ensign F. W. Dickens. has been detached from the
Frigate “Sabine,” and has been ordered to report to
the “Tuscarora," in the North Pacific Squadron, now
lying at San Francisco. The Tuscarora will probably
Join the South Pacific Squadron, and will be gone
about two years—Jifersom'an.
BRIDGEPORT.
Twelve hundred Car wheels for the Pacific Railroad
Made by Barnum, Richardson 8: Co. of Salisbury were
shipped from Bridgeport, for California, last week.
Mr. Lucius Curtlss, of this town, polled his 60th con-
secutive vote for Governor, April 6. Of course he vc-
ted for Jewell.
The Buckingham place on Fairfleld Avenue has
been sold to F. N. Hard for about 820,000.
A special Town meeting is called for the 14th lnst.,
to consider the propriety of erecting at the expense of
the town, a large building containing a 'commodlous
public hall and other rooms to let..
The steamer Bridgeport is to be hauled ofi‘ tempora-
rily by the middle of next week, when the Schuyler
will be run as a day boat, and the Stamford as a night
boat.
We understand there are only 256 applicants thus far
for positions on the Police Force. How many more
voters have been promised a chance, we have not
learned.
On Fast Day Bishop Williams was present at St.
John’s church and confirmed eight candidates. In the
Church of the Nativity, we understand that nearly
twenty candidates were confirmed by the Bishop.
The young men of the Y. M. C. Association appear
to be much engaged in holding religious services in
difi‘erent parts of the city and its suburbs. Meetings
are held by them in school houses in three school dis-
tricts—one on Tuesday, one on Wednesday, and one
on Friday evening, as also one in the poor house on
Sabbath afternoon, and one in the jail at 12 O’clock on
Sunday.
On Saturday evening, at Bridgeport, an Englishman
named William Turner, 0 house painter by trade, and
about fifty years old. fell off the dock about nine
o’clock and was drained.
The revival interest continues in the East Bridge-
port Methodist Church—Standard.
Gaussian—The Rev. Mr. Ilibbnrd of Yale Col-
lege, has accepted a call from the Congregational So-
ciety of Greenfield Hill. at a salary of 81,200 per an-
nuiu. The church needs over hauling and refuruish-
ing and willid‘doubt get it. The parish is the larg-
est in territory in the State—Standard.
STAMFORD.
A public reading room and library is to be
opened in Hoyt‘s building, April 14th. The
parish libraries of St. John and St. Andrews
churches have been united for this purpose.
The annual fee is $2.00.

town on Wednesday, and Lent’s New York
Circus, April 28th.

complished gymnast, died at Harrisburg, Pa..
on the 5th inst. A few weeks ago the poor
fellow fell from the trapeze, while perform-
ing at SttLouis, and sustained in‘uries that
eventually deranged his mind. u this con-
dition he came to Harrisburg, where he was
confined for his own protection; but, in his
frenzy, he dashed his head against the prison
walls and wounded himself to death.
