FAIRFIELD COUNTY ITEMS.

The M. E. Church, Rev. George L. Fuller,
pastor, which has been extensively repaired,
will be reopened for Divine Service, on the
10th of Nov. at 2 o’clock, p. in. Rev. Mr,
Steel, of Stamford will preach the reopen-
ing sermon, followed by an address from
Rev. Dr. Hill, of Norwalk. Rev. Mr. Breck-
inridge, of the 2d M. E. Church, Norwalk,
will preach in the evening at 7 O'clock.
N cw Canaan.
At the Town meeting on So turday—it
was voted by some 30 over a two thirds vote
to loan the credit of the town for $25,000 of
the stock of the new Railroad. This is the
best investmentthat town has made this
century. When the Derby and State Line
road is built and the Canaanites can reach
Gotham in an hour, that Biblical land will
look up.
Weston.
A glorious work of grace is in progress in
Weston, commencing with the labors of Rev.
J. D.,Pottcr. There have been some remark-
able cases of Conversion, and a joy hitherto
unknown has entered into many homes and
hearts.
\ Westport.
We are glad to hear that Sheriff Jones has
disappointed the doctors, and has so far rc-
covered his health as to have been able to
go out of doors on Saturday last.
A two-story addition isbeing‘ made to the
building on the east end Ofthe bridge, north
side.
Mr. Charles L. Allen, a shoemaker living
out on the corner of Compo and Ciaypit
roads, while riding on a loaded wagon some
time since, was thrown off and seriously in-
jured.
Greenwich.
On Sunday the 27th at Old Greenwich a
barn belonging to widow Thomas Ford was
destroyed by fire supposed to have been the,
work of an incendiary, with, the entire con-
tents in which was included a new carriage
Valued at $400, There was an insurance of
$300 on the barn only.
Also on the same day a barn belonging to
Mr. Daniel Ferris, was entirely destroyed by
fire,no doubt the work of an incendiary. It
was insured for $200.—Sfamford Advocate.
Stamford.
The Advocate denies the story published in
a New York paper, to the effect that whole
blocks of dwellings in Stamford are infected
with malaria, and says, “We have not been
afilietcd withfanyprevailing sickness, and are
thankful that at the present time, while we
hear of much suffering in other places, by
malarial fevers and agues,it is a season of
general health in this town.”
Efforts are being made to reorganize the
Lyceum for this season.
The Advocate editor has been shown a
monstrous beet raised on Strawberry Hill by
Mr. E. Harriman which measures 23 inches
round and Weighs nearly seven pounds; also
l bowl of choice raspberries picked in his
garden last week.
Mr. Smith’s new stores on the corner of
Slain and Atlantic, are being rapidly pushed
orward, and already improve the appearance

Mr. Geo. W. Dean is laying flagging in
rent of Mr. Scoficid's property opposite
Jentral Park, which is a long needed im-

The workmen on Mr. Smith‘s new build-

tying of the nuptial knot, 20 years before.
A bright pretty 'child, three years old, sec.
ond of Mr. Henry Bishop was drowned in
the basin of the fountain, at the residence of
Mrs. Alfred Bishop on .Friday last. The
father was absent on a fishing cruise.

Scott left Stratford about ten days since in
the Yatch “Belle Bennett,” on a fishing,
excursion to Fire Island, since which time
nothing has been heard of them, fears are en-
taincd for their safety. They carried provis-
ions but for a few days.
