CHAPTER XVI. .
An Act in alteration of “An Act concgrning
Communities and Corporations.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Assembly conven-
ed .' .
Sec. 1. That every railroad company in
this State which has heretofore placed upon
its cars, and continues to keep the same on
with the approbation of the railroad com—
missioners, the device or mechanism, known
as the “Expansion Safety Bridge, or any
other device, shall be deemed to .iaye coni-
plicd with the Act entitled “An Act 11,], addi-
tion to An Act concerning Railroads, pass-
ed at the May Session, A. D., 1866, and ap-
proved June twenty-second, A. D.,1866, and
shall not be liable to any of the penalties in
" said act provided. '
Sec. 2. All acts and parts of acts incon-
sistent herewith are hereby repealed. '
Sec. 3. This act shall take effect from its
passage.

An Act relating to Education.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives tn General Assembly concen-
cd : .
By the formation of any new school dis-
trict, no existing district shall be so reduced
as to contain less than forty persons between
the ages of four and sixteen years.

CHAPTER XVIII. .-
Aii Act in addition to “An Act tor the reg-
u lation of Civil Actions.”
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Assembly conceit-

Sec. 1.. In all actions of trespass and tres-
pass on the case, tried in the superior court,
in which the title to property of any kind,
right of way, or the right to the use of water
is in question, and the damage recovered
shall not exceed fifty dollars, if the court
shall find that the value of said property, or
right exceeds-fifty dollars, the plaintiff shall
recover full cost. . .
Sec. 2. In all actions of trover tried in
the supreme court, in which the value of the
property shall exceed fifty dollars, and the
same shall be returned alter the action is
brought, and the damage recovered by the
plaintiff shall not exceed fifty dollars, the
plaintiff shall recover his full costs. -
Sec. 3. All acts and parts of acts incon-
sistent herewith, are hereby repealed. .

CHAPTER XIX.
An Act in addition to “An Act concerning
the Domestic Relations."
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Assembly concen-
That whenever any married woman being
the owner of property, real or personal, and
having a husband without the means of pro-
viding for her support, shall, by reasonlof idi-
ocy, lunacy, age, sickness, or any other cause,
he incapable of joining in any contract for
the sale or conveyance of her property, the
court of probate in the district in which she
resides, may, on application of her husband,
or of the selectmen of the town where she
belongs, empower her husband or some oth-
er meet person, to sell and conveyall or any
portion of said property; said husband or
other person first giving bond with surety to
the judge of probate and his successor in of-
fice, with the condition that no part of the
proceeds of such sale shall be used for any
other purpose that the support and comfort
of such married woman. -

CHAPTER XX.
An Act in alteration of “An Act concerning
Education.”
Be it‘enacted by the Senate and House of

Sec. 1. That no acts or proceedings of any
school district in this State heretofore made
or passed at a meeting of said school district
duly warned, shall be held invalid for the
reason that duplicate copy of said warning
has not been left with the clerk of said dis-
trict as now required by law.
See. 2. This act shall not affect any action
now pendin .
Sec. 3. his act shall take effect from its
passage.

CHAPTER XXI.
An Act in addition to “An Act concerning
Education"
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Assembly concen-

It shall be the duty of the committee of
every school district to give to the active
school visitor, or visitors, whose duty it. is to '
visit the school or schools of said district, no-
tice of the date of the commencement and
close of each school term, within one week
before said close, respectively; and no dis-
trict school shall be certified to have been
kept according to law, which, by reason of
the neglect to give such notice, shall fail to
be visited by the acting school visitor or vis-
itors, as by law provided.

CHAPTER XXII.
An Act legalizing the doings of the Board of
Belief in certain School Districts.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Assembly concen-
Sec. 1. That in all cases where the asses-
sors and select men in a town have acted as
a board of relief in any school district of said
town, and have raised the assessment of any
property in said district, without giving the,
notice required by law to the owner thereof,
said assessment shall not for that reason be
deemed invalid, but the the same is hbreby
declared legal and valid in the same manner
as if said notice had been given.
Sec. 2. This act shall not affect any ac-
tion now pending.

CHAPTER XXIII.
An Act in addition to “An Act concerning
» Education."
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Wacntatioes in General Assembly concen-
Sec. 1. Any association of school districts
under the Statute of 1841, forming a union
district, and any other school district con-
taining by the enumeration last proceeding,
not less than six hundred children, between
the ages of four and sixteen years may at
any annual meeting, upon due notice, elect
by ballot three, six, nine or twelve male res-
idents of the district as a school committee,
and may provide that the committee so elect-
ed shall be divided into three years, respect—
ivcly; and that at every subsequent annual
election, one, two, three, or four members of
the committee, as the case may he, shall be
elected by ballot for a term of three years.
See. 2. The committee so elected shall ,
have all the powers and perform all the du-
ties which are now by law devolved upon,
other district committees.

for either the seizure and destruction of any
billiard table or tables, or for the punishment
of the owners and keepers of such tables
when the same are not used for the purpose
of timing, be, and the same are hereby rc-
pea ed.
Sec. 2. That section one hundred and fif-
ty-five of the act-to which this is in altera-
tion, be, and the same is hereby repealed.

Act for the Assessment and Collection of
Taxes." .
