S'rausonn.—Among the beautiful residen-
ces which adorn our charming lriiis, the
house of Mr. Harvey Hoyt, recently erected,
Standsont Very strikingly beautiful. It is
built on Walci'view Place, a continuation of
Richmond Hill and near enough the water
to give a distinct. view of the harbor and
Long Island Sound. The lrotrsc islarge and
elegant in appearance, three stories, with
French roof and cupaio, handsomely orna-
mented with scroll work and brackets and
painted itr appropriate colors. The inside
plan is all lliat can be desired. ‘
John W. Wils in, a tramp, was arrested
by ()llicer' Charles Alphonse, and brought
before .lustice Daskanr on Tuesday last, for
stealing five irand saws, a pair of C(filllllt‘tSSCS,
and a square, valued at about $20. lie was
fined .,‘7 and costs, and 30 days at Bridgeport.
There are three of the saws in the police-
man's hands, yct unclaimed.

gether they took about $100. On Sunday,
the house of Whipple Williams, of Bethel,
\vas entered while the family were at. church,
and pretty thoroughly ransacked. The
thieves found about $53, which they took. In
one of the beds which they overhauled were
sworn thousand d$ars in government
bonds, but which esca ed their clutches. At
Boutonville, upper end of Pound Ridge,
the store oi Seth Abbott. was entered, on
Sunday night, and relieved of about,$300,
worth of goods. There is no doubt but all
these robberies were committed by some of
the men who recently escaped front jail and
the utmost exertion should he made to se-

Brunonrorvrx-As the 3 p. in. Express from
New York, was passing abouta mile above
Southpert,Friday, a bolt to a section of the
cow—catcher to the locomotive gave away,
letting a portion of the catcher drag along
the track. In its descent, it split and crush-
ed a heavy tile, and the train ran a quarter
of a mile throwing the dirt and stones in all
directions, before it could be stopped. No
accident beyondinjury to the cow-catcher,
resulted from this mishap, but it is awonder
that nothing more serious took place. The
train was delayed over half an hour.
A few days ago as the 10 a. m. Express
train from New Haven for New York, was
passing the crossing at Southporti, the cow-
‘atehcr of the locomotive struck a little fel-
low aged about four years, and threw him a
distance ofscveral rode. Strange to say, no
bones were broken, but. the boy was terribly
lrruised and was iii a critical condition for
some time. He is hochcr, slowly recover-
ing.
The establishment of Mr. David Trtrbec,
on the Fairiield Road, lras been sold, to a Mr.
Fylcr, for about $14,000. .
We learn that the New York and New
Haven Railroad intend seen to ptrt a new
invention for ventilating cars on to their
Road. Tire invention is so arranged that
the cars can be kept closed in the 'armest
weather, and at the same time a constant
circulation tfpure air kept up through them.
The air passes in at the. front window, over
water, where it is purified, and then is distri-
buted through pipes opening into various
parts of the car. '
Sir Elias Howe, Jr., is expected to arrive
home this week.
The Excelsior Fire Company had a splen-
did reception at Philadelphia, last week.
Conductor Ward Nichols, of the New Ha-
ven road, is very sick. He was taken sud-
denl y while on dutya few days ago, and is now
very ill—Standard.

Estimating the distance tn to built by the Union
Pacific to be 1,505 miles, the I nited Sta‘tes Govern-
ment issues its Six per cent. 'r'hirty-year Bonds to
the Company as the road i.» finished at the average
rate ol'_abont $28,250 per mile, amounting to $11,-
208,000.
Tire Company is also permitted to issue its own
First Mortgage Bonds to an equal amount, and at
the same time, which by special Act of Congress
are inadea First Mortgage on the entire line, the
bonds of the United States being subordinate [0
them.
Tire Government makes n donation of12,800 acres
of land to the rrrilc, amounting to 20,032,000 acres,
estimated to be worth $30,001,000, making the total
resources, cxclrrsive of the e: pit-If, $118,416,000: but
the frrli value of the lands cannot now be realized.
The authorized Capital Slot-1:01 the Compauyis
one hundred nriilion dollars, of" which five millions
have already been paid in, and of which it, is not
supposed that: more than twenty-five millions at.
most will be required.
Tire cost of the road is estimated by competent en«
gincers to be about one hundred million dollars,

PROSPECTS FOR BUSINESS.
Tire railroad connection bet ween Omaha and the
East is now complete, and the earnings of the Union
Pacific 011 the sections alrtarlg’ finished for the first
two weeks in May were $1 ,i,‘illl. These sectional
earnings as the road progrt- as will much more
than pay the interest on the t'ompany’s bonds. and
the through business over the only line of railroad
between the Atlantic and 1’.:~‘".t'. must be immense.
