was continued until Friday evening, in con_
sequence of the storm preventing a large at-
tettdnuce on Wednesday evening. The ag-
ricultural Society’s Tent, which had been
procured for the occasion, was to have been
erected on the beautiful green surrounding
he church, but the clouds threatened wind
llliI rain and the grounds being rather ele-
vated, it was thought the venerable canvass
night succumb to the elements, so it was
iiaeed in the grove near theresideuce of Mr_
A. S. Jarvis,—-for a warm, sntiny day a more
nviting spot cottld not be found. The grove
vas illuminated in the evening giving a very
ine appearance to the scene. The old tent
ookcd familiar as in days of yore. The ta-
iles instead of being laden with pumpkins,
:abbages, grapes, apples, pears, potatoes, rye,
.vhcat, the. were loaded with strawberries,
or: cream, confectionery, and all the delica-
.-ies of the season ; many valuable and use-
ul articles \vere sold by tickets, at prices va—
"ying from ten to fifty cents. A new melo-
lcon, costing $110, was drawn by Mr. S. S.
Rowland, a beautiful silver cake basket Val—
.ied at $15 was drawu by Mr. Edgar Serih<
.ier ; a splendid silver iee pitcher, valued at
$20 was drawn by Mrs. Gregory Osborn, of
Georgetown; two silver napkin” rings, val-
ued at $5 was drawn by Mr. Howard Baker
of Westport: a. silver caster, valued at $8,
was drawn by Mr. A. S. Jarvis, and various
other small articles were distributed among
the crowd ; sortie of Mr. Jarvis scholars
were among the lucky ones. We learn that
the expectations of the committee having
charge of the entertainment were frilly real-
ized, the proceeds amounting to about $400.
After the fair th ended a dance was impro-
vised by the young people.

This road was completed from Omaha 305 miles
west on the lst ofJanuury, 1:907, and is fully equip-
ped, and trains are regularly running over it. The
Company has now on hand sufficient iron, tics, etc.,
to finish the remaining portion to the eastern base
of the Rocky Mountains, 212 miles, which is under
contract to be done September 1st of this year and
it. is expectedgthut the entire road will be in whom"
order from Omaha to its western connection will:
the Central Pacific, now being rapidly built east~
ward from Sacramento, Cal., during 1870.
MEANS OE THE COMPANY.
Estimating the distance to be built by tire Union
Pacific to be 1,565 miles, the United States Govern-
ment, issuesits Six per cent. Thirty-year Bonds to
the Company as the road is finished at the average
rate of about $28,250 per mile, amounting to 344,-
£08,000.
The Company is also permitted to issue its own
First Mortgage Bonds to an equal amount, and at
the same time, which by special Act of Congress
are made a First Mortgage on the entire line, the
bonds of the United States being subordinate to
them.
The Government makes a donation of 12,800 acres
of land to the mile, amounting to 20,032,000 acres,
estimated to be worth $30,000,000, making the total
resources, exclusive of the capital, $118,416,000: but
the full value of the lands cannot now be realized.
The authorized Capital Stock of the Company is
one hundred million dollars. of which five millions
have already been paid in, and of which it is not
supposed that more than twenty-five million at
most will be required.
The cost: of the road Is estimated by competent en-
gineers to be about one hundred million dollars
exclusive of equipment.
PROSPECTS FOR BUSINESS.
The railroad connection between Omaha and the
East: is now complete, and the earnings of the Union
Pacific on the sections already finished for the first
two weeks in May were $113,000. These sectional
earnings as the road progresses will much more
than pay the interest on the Company's bonds, and
the through business over the only line of railroad
between the Atlantic and Pacific must be immense.
VALUE AND SECURITY OF THE BONDS.
. The Company respectfully submit, that the above
statement of facts fully demonstrates the security of
their Bonds, and as additional proof they would sug-
gest that the Bonds now offered are less than ten
million dollars on 51'? miles of road, on which over
twenty million dollars have already been expende ;
~on 330 miles of this road the cars are now run"
nine}, and the remaining 181' miles are nearly
completed.
At the present rate of premium on gold these bonds
pay an annual interest on the present cost of
NINE PER CENT,
and It is believed that on the completion of the road
like the Government Bonds, they will go above par.
The Company intend to sell but a limited amount at
the present low rate, and retain the right to advance
the price at. their option.

For sixteen years the HUMOR Dacron has been
manufactured and sold, and every year has increased.
the value of its reputation, and the amount. of ltl
sales. In New Hampshire. where it was origin:-
ted, no remedy for Humor-s is so highly prized. An
eminent physician (now an army surgeou,) when
practicing in N. H. purchased between fifty and nix-
ty gallons of it, during some seven or eight you“,
and used it: in his practice. He has since then or-
dered it for the Hospital where he was stationed.
Other physicians have purchased it, and have used
it inpractice with perfect success. When the pro-
prietor lived in New Hampshire, at Gofi'stowu Cen-
tre, for the space of thirty or forty miles around,
and in Manchester particularly, the Humor Doctor
was well known and hishty valued for the numer-
ous and wonder-Ililcnrcs which it effected. Though
manufactured in large quantities, the supply was
frequently exhausted, and purchasers had to wait
for more to be made. In that region some very le-
ver-e cases of Erysipelas were treated with it, and
they were cured. Erysipelas sores, or Carbuncles
those ugly painful ulcers, were entirely removed,
wherever this medicine was faithfully used. So it
was with Scrofulu and Salt Rheum. The Humor
Doctor cured them.
Since the Proprietor’s removal to Melrose. Mast,
his present residence, he has been regularly selling
it to patients who have applied to him in person,
and has been very successful in relieving and curing
them. One case oI Erysipetas-of an old man 72
years—is worth mentioning in particular. When he
came to the Doctor’s office he could only wear a nil:
of old rubber ovcrshoes his feet and ankles were so
swollen and sore. When he pulled off his socks the
scabs came with them, and the raw bleeding feet
were frightful to behold. Suffice it to say, that less
than one dozen bottles of the Humor Doctor (and in
a few weeks) healed up those feet and nuklel, so
that they were smooth and apparently sound. The
man wore boots without inconvenience. Numerous
cases of pimples in thefaca have been treated with
this medicine, to the entire eradication of them. In
Melrose alone, there are more than a hundred per-
sons who have used the Humor Doctor, and give it
an excellent name. In all the towns around it is
well known and approved.
