STAMFORD—The Alleghaniaus sting in
Seely's Hall, Saturday evening last.
The Graded School opens this week. Pub-
lic opening exercises were held in the new
building on Saturdaylast. The edifice, both
for durability and convenience, will chal-
lenge a comparison with any building for
school urposes in the State.
The ircclors oi the First National Bank
have declared a five per cent. dividend, pay-

DANBURY.—-Miss Clara Barton lectures
this (Tuesday) evening, at Concert Hall, on
"Work and incidents of Army Life”.
Fred. 8. Wildman, Esq , is looking at
Danbury, at present, on crutches. His re-
turn to the sight of his many friends, though
in a manner suggestively unfortunate, is
heartily welcomed.
The oldest sexton in Danbury has just re~
signed his office. Mr. Seth Addis has per-
formed the duties of sexton of the Baptist
Church for twenty-five years, and for the
past ten years has been absent from his post
only one Sabbath, and that once through
sickness.
Workmen are engaged in digging the cel-
lar for DeKyln's new building.
The front of Bcers’ new building on White
Street is completed, and makes a handsome
appearanrc.~ 7 imes.
BRIDGEPORT.—Tllc Standard urges selling
the present County jail, and building a new
one in a more secluded quarter of the city.
A Russian deputation were at the Cartridge
factory, last week, examining the various
processes in the manufacture of cartridges,
and testing the various kinds.
Capt. J. L. Wesscls, of Battery B, has re-
signed.
The Mission Fund in the hands of St.
John’s church society, amounting to about
3800,15 to be handed to the’ St. Paul’s Mis-
sion of E. D., for the purchase of a lot, on
which it is intended as soon as possible, to
erect a neat chapel. '
The firemen's celebration, on Tuesday last,
was a grand affair. Neptune Hose 00., of
Newark, N. J ., with a full band, were among
the visiting companies. The “Americus
Hose" turned out with Graiula's full band.
Several other good bands were in the proces-

OUR RAiLnoAns.—We are indebted to
Hon. W. A. Cunnnings, of Darien, for a
copy of the annual report of the General
Railroad Commissioners, from which we
copy the following remarks:
“It is very gratifying to be able to report
a large diminution of accidents over the
previous year ; especially that there has not
one passenger been killed among the 5,600,-
765 1-2 carried in the cars who occupied the
seats provided for them. One was killed
while passing irorn one car to another, by
falling between the platforms while the train
was in motion. Some others, by acts of
their own.carelessncss, involving no respon-
sibility on the companies Three passengers
and two operatives were injured by the only
collision which has occurred during the year,
wnieh happened on the New London North-
ern road, reported elsewhere. Twenty ac-
cidents occurred by lying or walking upon
the track. Six by jumping on or Off the
cars while in motion, with the accustomed
cases of intoxication, insanity, &C. .4
We ”feel it incumbent "upon us to repeat
the recommendation made in our last report,
making it illegal for persons to walk upon
the tracks of the railroads, which would re-
sult in the saving of human life. Such laws
exist in Europe with the happiest results.
There has been expended for the working
the roads, $5,420,970.24, against $4,413,703.30
last year; excess this year, $1,007,272.94.—
For maintenance of way, $1,378,806.49,
against $1,538,017.50 last year; being a re-
dilution of $159,211.01. Gross earnings, $8,-
026,939.05; last year, $7,275,371.05: excess
this year, $750,507.40. Nett earnings, $2,-
162,775.40; last year. $1,474,171.02; excess
this year, $68813 . 3.58.

ing the trunk road of the State, occupies an
iiiipol'ttlit p isition, deriving from its nu-
merous connections a constant flow of busi-
uesss, which must inevitably increase, as the
section through which its tributaries ran be
comes more fully developed. Its local busi-
ness must necessarily increase just as rapidly
as its management offer inducements for the
citizens of the great metropolis to seek sub-
urban residences, by vliberal commutation,
and moderate fares; thus having the ten-
dency not only to increase purpopulation
'upon its line, but also materially to add to
our Wealth and prosperity. .
Its gross earnings were $2,164,502.25, be-
ing $24,605.68 in excess of the previous
year. When we take into consrderation the
settlement of the questions involved in the
war which has closed, the return to their
homes of our citizen soldiers, and their nat-
ural characteristics to engage at once in in-
dustrial labor, we conclude this would have
the tendency to materially lessen the vol-
ume of travel from that source the past year.
During the summer of 1865, this road was
liberally graveled. Much lesslabor was ex-
pended ou this work the past season, yet all-
was done that was actually necessary. Fif-
teen hundred ions of re-rolled iron was laid
on its track, and its cars run smoothly
through the inclement winter. We are of
the Opinion that more passenger cars are
needed to accommodate the increasing sum-
mer travel. _
New and commodious depots are in course
of construction at Stamford and Norwalkpf
sufficient capacity to accommodate the in-
creasiug business of the road. The one at
Siaiiifurd will probably be completed by the
first of May. It is 210 feet in length, by 20
feet in width; two and one half stories high,
with every requisite for the accommodation
of passengers, telegraph Office, and refresh-
ment room. The one at Norwalk is tWenty
four lcet wide; in every respect will be like
the one at the former place. These depots
were greatly needed.
We have bicen assured by its Officers that
one thousand tons Of new iron, (which your
commissioners have required,) in addition to
the Same amount or more of ic-rolled iron,
will be laid the present year, and other iui
portant repairs will be made.

It is very easy to say of this, or any other Medicine
“It is the very best Remedy known.” It: is not al-
ways so easy to prove it. It is, however, exceed-
ingly gratifying to the proprietor of this Medi-
cine, that, while he declares to the public that this
is amost wonderful and cfi'ective Specific for Ba-
mors, as stated above, be has abundant proof at
hand to sustain him.
For sixteen years the HUMOR DOCTOR has been
manufactured and sold, and every year has increased
the value of its reputation, and the amount of its
sales. In New Hampshire, Where it was origina-
ted,uo remedy for IIumors is so highly prized. An
eminent physician (now an army surgeon,) when
practicing in N. H. purchased between fifty and six-
ty gallons of it, during some seven or eight years,
and used it in his practice. Hehas since then or-
dered it for the Hospital where he was stationed.
0thor physicians have purchased it, and have used
it in practice with perfect success. When the pro-
prietor lived in New Hampshire, at Goffstown Cen-
tre, for the space of thirty or forty miles around,
and in Manchester particularly, the Humor Doctor
was well known and highly valued for the numer-
ons and wonderful cures which it effected. Though
manufactured in large quantities, the supply was
frequently exhausted, and purchasers had to wait
for more to be made. In that region some very se-
vere cases of Erg/sipelas were treated with it, and
they were cured. Erysipelss sores, or Carbuucles
those ugly painful ulcers, were entirely removed,
wherever this medicine was faithfully used. So it
was with Scrofula and Salt Rheum. The‘ Humor
Doctor cured them.
Since the Proprietor's removal to Melrose. Mass.,
his present residence, he has been regularly selling
it to patients who have applied to him in person,
and has been very successful in relieving and curing
them. One case of Erysipelas—of an old man 72
years—is worth mentioning in particular. When he
came to the Doctor‘s Office he could only wear a pair
of old rubber overshoes his feet and ankles were so
wolleu and sore. When he pulled off his socks the
cabs came with them, and the raw bleeding feet
were frightful to behold. Sullice it to say, that less
than one dozen bottles of the Humor Doctor (and hug
a few weeks) healed up those feet and ankles, so '
that they were smooth and apparently sound. The
man wore boots without inconvenience. Numerous
cases of pimples in the face have been treated with
this medicine, to the entire eradication oftheni. In
Melrose alone, there are more than a hundred per-
sons who have used the Humor Doctor, and give it
an excellent name. In all the towns around it is
well known and approved.

upon the inside of both my hands, and even down on
