FAIRFIELD COUNTY ITEMS.
GREENWICir .—The Standard says “Ellery
voter on the list at Greenwich, cast his vote
at the late election—an incident which rarely
happens iii any town." That is nothing.- _
Last year, it was reported that the votes
polled in that town exceeded the entire num-
ber of names on the list by some hundred.
This year the Republicans bagged the privi—
lege of allowing one of their party to assist
in counting the votes, but the Board refused
the request.
The Light Guard, Co. F. 81h Reg. C.N. G.,
are ordered out for their April parade and
drill, next Monday.
New CANAAN.—The ladies of the Congre-
gational Church give a Supper’at Armory
Hall, Wednesday evening. '
WILTON—This town is noted for its
Church and School House difficulties. A
correspondent sends us an account of a
school meeting held at Cannon’s Station, last
Saturday evening, the deliberations of which
seem to have been conducted in strict accord-
ance with Congressional usages. A tirade of
abusive personalities was engaged in, which
ended in a fight, one man being knocked
down, and a general excitement ensuing, rath-
unfavorable to the transaction of legitimate
business. The meeting finally adjourned
amid the utmost confusion. Come, Gentle-
men this style of conducting meetings has
longe since ceased to be respectable in Con-
necticut. Turn over a new leaf, and try an
_ era of good feeling and mutual forbearance
with one another’s faults.

man escaped without serious injury. The
horse ran a short distance, upset the wagon.
threw himself and was soon secured from
doing further harm. Mr. Scribner was car-
ried home the same evening.
Remember the Concert to be given at the
Congregational church Wednesday. Besides
the local talent, Mrs. D. D. Griswold,, tenor
of New York, and Miss Fannie Byxbee, of
Norwalk, will sing. The concert is for the
benefit of thecliurcli.
NEWTowN—The house and burn of El-
mer Faircbld was destroyed by the one
night last week. Loss about $5,000. Sup-
posed to be iicendiary.
Au irishmai was recently arrested for stab-
bing acolord man, who was probably fatal-
ly injured. A. democratic justice put the
irishman unoer $500 bonds—Standard.

THE petition of the undersigfied inhabitants of
Norwalk in said State respect lly represents that
said town of Norwalk now contains a population of
about twelve thousand, which number is rapid) in-
creasing; that in order to secure a pro er po ice;
the roper laying out and grading of sree s ; a thor-
ong and effective system of drainage ; the protec-
tion of property from loss and damage by fire; a nec-
essary su ply of water ; the preservation of the
public hes th and the general welfare of the inhab-‘
itants, it has become necessary that the more dense-
ly populated portions of said town should be incor-
porated as a City under an efiicient city government.
Your petitioners therefore pray that you will grant
a charter of incorporation as a cit to all the inhab-
itants of said town, within the fo lowing described

to the New Bridge so called. on the New Canaan
road. then to the h hway a few rods due west ofthe
dwelling house of rs. L. M. Stevens, thence to the
