March 27th, at Ilctt‘s Hull, before the Irish
t'illZeIls of Westport, having in View the or-
ganization of a Fenian Circle to act in con-
junction with,or under the auspices of the
'James Stevens Circle, of Norwalk. Money
was subscribed and measures adopted to form
the Circle.
Rev. Mr. Green, front Texas, delivered the
last address in the campaign here, at Bell‘s
Hall, Thursday evening, March 28. His rc-
remarks were such as any ouewould natural-
ly make, who had been incarcerated within
the walls of i‘ebel Prisons or suffered insult
and injury trout Southern pro-slavery advo-
cafes.
100 guns were fired on Wednesday even-
ing, 3d lush, by our Democratic friends, in
commemoration of their recent triumph at
the polls

Nash, Esq, was burglaricusly entered
through a window, while the family were
absent at Church, on Sunday, the 3lst ML,
and robbed of a small amount of money. >
WILTON.—~Last Wednesday evening, 3d
inst, a pleasant and agreeable surprise was
given Mr. John Got-ham, at his residence on
Chestnut Hill. A company of gentlemen
and Ladies to the number of about seventy.
five, were present, representing the towns of
Norwalk, New Canaan, Ridgcfield, Salem,
Wilton, Weston and Westport. The enter-
tainment consisted of music dancing and gen-
eral amusement. At a scasonable hour the
ladies arranged the tables in a very tasteful
manner and supplied them with an abun~
dance of beautiful] y frosted cakes which they
had been lniudlul to bring along, together
with agood supply of Confectionery and oth-
creoncomitants which they found already
prepared, to all of which the company did
ample justice, and appeared highly gratified
with the good things so bountifully provided.
Many good looking ladies were present, and
the sly glances cast at them by some of the
single gentlemen present impressed us with
the thought that perhaps ere long, ruby lips,
sweet stnilcs,and the charms of female lovli-
ness might overcome, and win their hearts.
After the party had eaten they gathered (If
the fragments three (cake) baskets full. SO-
ciality, music, and mirth held sway until the
“wee small hours ol morning," when the
party separated highly pleased with the even—
ing’s entertainment.
WESTON—Mr. Chas. Jennings, for eight
years a teacher of music in Weston, is to
give :1 Concert at the Congregational church.
on the 17th inst.
BumeEvau—On Saturday week it. was
discovered that Grady and Allen the Express
robbers, were at work with a large jack screw
and jimmy, cudcavoring to escape from the
Bridgeport jail. They were in an open room
and were removing a part of the brick work.
On Monday they were brought to the state
prison in Wethersfield where it is prob-
able they willstay till their sentence expires.
Mr. 0. S. Hubbell, a wealthy druggist of
Philadelphia, has purchased about 300 acres
of land, on the Milford side of the Housaton-
ic River, opposite Stratford, which he is grad-
ing, and beautifying. He has built an excel-
lent wall along the shore and intends to erect
on the place a fine residence, and judging
from appearances. be will have one of the
handsomest summer residences in the coun-
try. On this place and in Philadelphia, he
has some full blooded Alderuey cows, which
he visited the old country for the purpose of
obtaining.
