Thus has passed away from earth one who
had long out-lived her generation. She has
been a living link connecting the past with
the present. Born nearly eleven years before
the declaration of'our Independence, she has
witnessed all the unfolding of our national
history, and lived to see that independence
and freedom which was achieved in the revo-
lution, consolidated and perpetuated in the
late and we hope last great struggie for the
complete freedom, Union and independence
of our country. Her funeral was attended
on Sabbath afternoon by a large number of
the inhabitants of the town. G-
WESTON—Mr. Albert Lockwood, aged 80
years,died very suddenly, on the 15th inst.
He was in usual good health, had been to a
neighboring town during the day, and died
while sitting in his chair, in the early even.

STAMFORD—The first National Bank of
Stamford has declared a dividend of five per
cent, from the earnings of the last six months

he Board of Director of the New Canaan
railroad, which met Saturday afternoon week
to locate the road at the Stamford end of the
route, adjourned before coming to a conclu-
sion. A number of prominent citizens were
present who protested against the road cross-
ing their grounds, and running through the
principal street of the village.
The Cecelians gave their second concert on
Monday evening and were warmly welcom-
ed by a filled house.
Mr. Sands Seely is about to open in Hart-
ford an agency of the New York Mutual Life
Insurance company.
. Our townsmau. Mr. W. Faulkner, the ac-
tive manager of the Silver Mining and Mill
Co., of Nevada, arrived home last week. Mr.
F. is looking remarkably well, and purposes
family before returning to the Silver State—
Mr. F. says that workmen are employed
night aud‘day on the great Pacific railroad,
and thinks that in two years time it will be
completed to Austin, Nevada—Advocate.

proceeds will go towards finishing the build-

pointed collector of customs for the District
vice Mr. Silas C. Booth removed, and Mr.
Hanford N. Hayes has been appointed Depu-

Lewis T. Olmstead had the fingers of his
right hand cut off recently by a pair of shears
which he was using.
Ralph N. Brush, a colored sailor of Fair
Haven, was met on Water street, at about 7
p. m., on Saturday night, near Ellis & Wil-
let’s stone yard, by three men, who threw a
shawl over his head and deliberately robbed
him of $15.50 in cash and a silver watch and
chain. He was badly choked by the rascals.
Soon alter Fred Smeidel was met by three
men and robbed of $36 in cash, and two
men stopped a man who was crossing the
Center Bridge and attempted to rob liiin al-
so, but the sight of a six shooter, deterred
them.
The congregation of the Beaver Strcct M.
E. Church presented their Pastor, on Thurs-
day evening last, with a purse of $225, and
also some small pin money for his wife. The
congregation under the pastorate of Rev. F.
Bottome in Beaver street, is enjoying a de-
lightful state of prosperity. A steady revi-
val has been in progress for several months
and each communion season has witnessed
very gratifying accessiOns to the church. On
Sunday last, quite a number of adults were ,
baptized and received with other candidates
into church fellowship.

West to large audiences. His object in do-
ing so may be inferred from the following ex-
tract of a private letter to a fricud,whicliwe
are permitted to publish:
“From the proceeds of my Western lecture
tour I shall devote one thousand dollars to a
school in Bethe], Conn. (my birth-place); also
one thousand dollars to a school in Bridge-
port, Conn., the interest of which is to be giv-
en in prizes annually to the scholars who
may excel in reading. writing, and arithme-
tic; and one or two thousand dollars to one
or thi of the churches in Bridgeport."
