Another race between the sailboat “Go
Softly," of Westport, and the “Uiiion,”oi

Bridgeport, and was won by the “Go Softly,"
by 10 minutes and 11 seconds. Distance six
miles and return.
Six hundred and seventy persons give in
their inconiesIas amounting to $1,188,707;
the average income of each person is $1,773.
The workmen are busy laying the foun-
dation of a new church edifice for the Beth-
esda Mission. in East Bridgeport. The lot
chosen tor the edifice is on East Washington
avenue, oposite the Park.
The First National Horse Fair ‘01 the
Bridgeport Association Park, will be held
on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of
this week. Premiums to the amount of
$1,000 will be offered. ‘
On Golden Hill the Roman Catholics, are
building a church of gray granite, which
is to be 192 feet long, 73 1-2 feet wide, and 73
feet high. In its rear is to be a cruciform
chapel,_100 feet by 34. It is to have a stone
tower 210 feet high. The building. will cost
$150,000, and will be the largest church edi-
fice in the State.
The Directors of the Housatouic R. R.
00., have declared a dividend of $4 per Share,
free of Government tax, payable on the let
of November. The transfer books will be
closed from Oct. 26th to Nov. 1st.

are reported in Fairfield county; thirty pas-
tors and acting pastors; 5,862 communicants;
3,696 families; 3,812 Sabbath school scholars;
38,679 ' dollars contributed for benevolent
purposes in 1865; 482 men went from the
families and Sabbath. schools of this connec-
tion into the army and navy during the late
rebellion; 28 members of these churches of-
fered their lives to secure victory in ‘this
mighty struggle. The pastors and members
of these churches have stood and still stan
for the glorious flag. .
