lice in last weeks issue. You will not be oflended, I
am sure, ifI correct one or two errors in which I am
, unintentionally placed in a 'wrong 1ight._ 1st. I nov-
er belonged to the Methodist Church. The only
Church beside the COngregational—in which I was
born into the kingdom—with which I was ever co n-
nected by‘in‘cmbership or pastorate was the Metho-
dist Protestant Church, whose free polity is much
like our own. 2nd. I am building at Boonshoro a
regular, bonaflde Congregational Church ; In its Con-
fession, Doctrines and Covenant the same our pilgrim
Fathers Mundcd.
New Canaan, this week, gave me $72. I think Nor-
walk willreaICh $150. Yes blessings on our alma
mater sterling Old Negv England.

PAIBFIELD COUNTY ITEMS.

' WILTON.—On Friday last a lad named
Tucker,in.thc employ of Mr. Aaron Jelllff,
at‘Mid'dlebrOOks Mills, while carelessly fool-
ing, with the machinery, was caught on a
shutting, to which his clothes adhered, and
he was carried around swiftly, bruising‘
his head, and nearly breaking his skull. He
was very seriously hurt, but it is thought he
will , recover. '

man have recieved a patent for improved hay

FAIRFIELD.—0n Thursday night week the
residences of Messrs. Glover, General Thorp,
Nichols, Colonel Whetmore, and one other
house, at Fairfield, were entered by burglars.
At one place a Miss Kelly’s trunk was stolen,
and she was robbed of all her wearing appar-
el, the. The trunk had been packed, and she
was expecting to go to New York on the
morning train. She lost about $490 worfh
of goods, At the other places, nothing of
value was stolen—Standard.

eledtions Oct. 9. Pennsylvania will choose a
Governor beside 24 Con ressmen, a U. S.
Senator in place of Edgar owan, part of her
Senate and an Assembly. Ohio has to elect

' 19 Con ressmcn ; Indiana 11, with legislators
and a I? 8. Senator in place of Hear S. Laue,
who; declihe‘s as second term. , own will
choose six members of Congress, with a Leg-
islature and certain State ofllcers;

JEFF. Davrs’ Tumn—lt is now definitely
stated that Jefferson Davis will not be tried
the coming October. The postponement of
the trial is said to be a legal necessity. The
judges of the Supreme Court do not agree up-
on their power to make a change of judges,
and it will be necessary to await the action of
Congress in this matter. When these difficul-
ties shall have been corrected, and it is au-
thoritatively announced, the military will in
'nowise interfere with the civil law. Judge
Chase annouces himself in readiness to call
a special session and proceed with it as soon .
as possible. ,

A Conra‘msox.—The relative size of the
Cleveland and Pittsburg conventions is
shown by this: The tent used by Cleveland
convention, and which was not a third foil,
was taken to Pittsburg by theCleveland del-
egation, and is barely large enough for the
accommodation oftthat delegation alone.

Judas did not go travelling round the country
