WESTPORT.—-During the storm of Wed
nesday last,u large willow tree in front of
-the residence of Mr. John W. Taylor, was
struck by lightning. Soon after another
bolt struck the house, tearing off about four
feet of the corner. Mrs. Taylor and others
of the family were knocked down by the
shock. , .
A'n Ox belonging to Mrs. Samuel Finch
was struck by lightning and killed.

ever they go their Concerts cannot fail of
glvrng pleasure and satisfaction to their hear

Patrick Haverty, a young man about 23
years of age, recently from Ireland, was
drowned in the canal on Tuesday eve-last.
He was with a party of friends, bathing, and
getting, suddenly beyond his depth, was
rowned before assistance could be rendered.
The Ohio Universit has conferred the

petition to the Board of Light House Com-
missioners, for a‘Light Boat to be moored
off the Cowes‘ opposite the Harbor of Black
Rock. The‘petition’ has been numerously
signed, and the spot for which the boat is
asked is a very dangerous one—Standard.
SUDDEN Drum—David A. Foster, a far-
mer, livin in the district of Long Meadow
Hill, Broo field, while working in one of his
fields, on Monday, fell down and immedi-
ately expired. Heart disease was the cause
of his death. He was aged about 65 years.
