FAIRFIELD COUNTY ITEMS.
ROWAY'I‘0N.—A Strawberry Festival for
the benefit of the Baptist Church, is to be
held at the South Five Mile River Hotel, on
Thursday evening. Norwalk people wish-
ing to pass a pleasant evening will do well
to_ ride over and take part in the entertain-
ment. ‘
WESTPORT ——The First National Bank of
Westport, has declared a semi-annual divi-
dend of five per cent, payable July' 2d. This
is the 26th dividend.
The ladies of the Memorial Church are ma~
king extensive arrangements for afancy Fair,
to be held in their Lecture Room, on the at-
ternoons and evening of July 4th and 5th,
for‘lhe benefit of the Church. There will
undoubtedly be a large attendance Of per-
sons from adjoining towns, and Of city friends
spending the summer in the country, and the
ladies will do their best to entertain them.
WILTON.‘-On Saturday last the Pastime
Base Ball Club,of Wilton,played the long ex-
pected match with a Picked Nine, of Wilton.
The match resulted in favor of the Pastimes.

NEw CANAAN.—-We learn that the Fair
and Festival to be given by the Ladies Of St.
Mark’s Church, New Canaan, June 27th and
28th, will be on a larger scale than was at
first anticipated. The ladies will therefore
hold their Fair and Festival in the Town
House next to the Episcopal Church, instead
of Armory Hall, as previously advertised.
Refreshing beverages, sweet Strawberries,
Ice Cream and other choice substantial eata-
bles; also Fancy Articles of beautiful de-
sign and excellent workmanship; the Post
Office, Gold Ring tree, the Magic fish Pond,
the Gentleman’s Horror, the Kaleidoscope,
Elephant and many other curiosities and
small wares will be exhibited and sold. Ad-
mission to both departments, only ten cents.
RIDGEFIELD.—Tlle Ladies Aid. Society of
the Methodist E. Church, are tO hold a Fes-
tival in Jones’ Hall, on Thursdayevening.
The Georgetown Glee Club will be present.
GREENWICII.-The Suburban News says
burglars have been quite active lately in
Greenwich. The residences Of Mrs. Sarah L.
Heusted, W. R. Talbot, and Mr. Samuel Ly-
on, were recently entered, but in neither
case succeeded in getting off much plunder.
The residence of Henry M. Bailey was also
entered and robbed of articles to the value of
$150.
Dr. Sylvester Mead has taken the store at
present occupied by Mr. E. W Perry, in
Greenwich Avenue, and is going toflt it up
for a drug store. '
STAMFORD—The long-talked of gathering
of the Hoyt families came off last week and
was largely attended, many of that name
coming from along distance, among whom
were many who sprung from the earliest set-
tlers of that name in the town Of Norwalk.

ing reportz—On Wednesday morning the
company assembled in the Congregational
Church, and Rev. W. C. Hoyt was chosen
temporary chairman. After a hymn, prayer
was Offered by Prof. Hoyt Of Oberlin, Ohio.
Hoyts were found to be present from the
States of Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island,
Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois,
Michigan and Tennessee.
The following named gentlemen were ap-
pointed permanent Officers of the meeting :

Mr. OliverHoyt, on taking the chair re-
turned tlianks, when Rev. W. C. Hoyt deliv-
ered a congratulatory address full of wit'
and humor, and abounding in happy allu-
sions to the tribe. Addresses were made by
Henry Hoyt, of Boston, Dr. E. Hoyt, of
Mass, and Gen. Hoyt, of Pennsylvania, who
once lived in Danbury.
Letters were then read from Hon. John
Sherman, U. S. Senator, and Major General
Sherman, whose mother was a Hoyt, who
had formerly resided in Norwalk.
In the evening the Church was well filled
by the family and their friends. The features
of the occasion was the readin Of an origi-
nal poem by the Rev. Ralph oyt of New
York. Another gentleman Of the Hoyt per-
suasion read an interesting genealogical his-
tory of the family extending back to a peri-
od between two and three hundred years.
A short address by Mr. Henry Hoyt of Bos-
ton, closed the exercises of the evening.
The gathering closed on Thursda with a
collation at Seeley's Hall. Tab es were
spread with all the substantials and delica-
cies of the season. The Stamford band was
present, discoursing sweet music, and the
grand prt gathering separated for their
homes, With enthuSIastic praises of the no-
ble entertainment provided for them by their
Stamford brethren. 4
A photographic group Of the Hoyt galli-
ering at Stamford, was taken by Whitney &.
Paradise, from whom copies can be obtain-
ed. The picture is on a large plate, 15 x 18
inches, and was taken in front of the Con-
gregational Church. Over 500 persons are in
the group.
Mr. Caleb Hoyt, of Salina, N. Y., who is
approaching his 92 birthday, was probably
the eldest person present.
“ Private Theatricals” are being publicly
givein for the benefit of the Lyceum Library

The Cecilia Glee Club, under the leader-
ship Of C. W. Smith, were to give a Concert
last night.
Mr. Samtiel Holmes was recently ordained
to the deaconate, by Bishop,Williams.
Rev. W. I. Magill has been ordained to the
priesthood, and accepted a call to a church

evening, was seen to raise his arms to his
head, and then to fall suddenly to the pave-
ment, He was picked up and carried into a
building close by, where he died a few min-
utes later. It was found out afterwards that
he had purchased at one Of our drug stores
a large dose of striohnine, with ‘which he
committed self-destruction. The unforunatc
you'll; man has been an inmate of an insane
asylum, and was thought by his friends to
he recovered from his insanity. He was to
have been married to a young girl in Pound
Rldge. Thursday evening, and it is supposed
that the excitement attending the event
brought on a relapse. He was wa'ltin in
Stamford the arrival- of a brother from New
York, whom he was anxious should be pres.
