FAIRFIELD.—Rev. Dr. E. E. Rankin was
installed pastor of the Congregational
Church, in Fairfield, on Tuesday, J une 5th.
The sermon was preached by Prof Atwater,
of Princeton, a former pastor of the Church;
installing prayer by Rev. Dr. Hewitt, of
Bridgeportvwhohad been installed over the
same church,just iortyeight years before;
charge to the pastor, by Rev. Dr. Childs, of
Norwalk ; right hand of fellowship, by, Rev.
MerLord ; charge to the people, by Rev. Mr
Relyea, of Greenwich._ The services were
of an unusual. interest-,zaud- the people of
Fairfield'are td‘bo' congratulated on their
speedy and unanimous 'settlement upon a
pastor. ' .

 

 

 

RIDGEFIELD.—The Floral Society, recent-
ly organized, are to hold their first moathly
Festival. in Jones’s Hall, on Thursday even-
ing, J une 81st. Ten premiums are offered
for the largest and best collection of Flowers,
best bouquets of cultivated and wild Flowers,
and Flowers in pots. Refreshments will be
served,,snd the audience will be entertained
with vocal and instrumental music.

ed with the’Melhodist E. Church, will hold ;

a Strawberry Festival, in the Lecture Room
of the church, on Wednesday evening, 20th
inst. Abundance of Refreshments and a

The Ladies of SLMark’s Church announce
a Strawberry Festival to be held at Armory
Hall, on the afternoons and evenings of Wed-
nesday and Thursday, June 27th—28tb.

stock of the Railroad, with the terminus at

Mrs. Catherine Osborn, of Bridgeport,
Conu., who is dangerously ill, wishes to hear
from her son, Henry Osborn, a boy of four-
teen years of age, who has been absent from
home, about four months, and has gone to
parts unknown. .

appear in Stamford yesterday, with James
Robinson and Carlotta de Berg as theaters.
Mr. Chas. A. Weed, of Stamford, and F.
J. Pratt, of N. Y., have recently purchased a
Salt island in Louisiana, and are erecting
buildings thereon and commenced working
the mines. The mines have been known for
many years, and are very extensive, but have
never been worked. The salt is of a very su-
perior quality, and the pros ts are that
these entterprrsing yankees 11 make a “big
thing” out of their newly acquired possess-

ions. s
A new or has been purchased for the
M. E. Cbu which will soon be placed in

the Church. It is spoken of as a very fine
instrument, costing abbut $4,000. One half
of this sum was tgenerously subscribed by
two gentlemen o the Church—gentlemen
who are always forward in promoting all
good enterprises—and the remainder will be
raised by» the ladies, who pro shortly
holdings fair for this purpose. ' he Church
is now out of debt, and is one of' the hand-
somest and most substantial places of wor-
ship in this place. ' .

Mr. Joseph B. Hoyt had a horse and wag-

curred with the action of that body.

pacity in a case where part ofthe obligators
reside out of the State, was reported favora-
